2020 Ford F-150 Diesel

2020 Ford F-150 Diesel: Specs, Price

The best-selling Ford F-150 is built to work but it can also morph to the luxury machine. Ford offers the fast-selling, half-ton truck in various cab styles and with different bed sizes. There are also six trims to choose from and an impressive lineup of six engines. The 2020 Ford F-150 Diesel is one of the best towing and the most efficient options.

The diesel engines and torque and towing wars spread also to the light-duty truck segment and all leading brands offer their models with the diesel option now. The recently all-new Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado and GMC Canyon introduced the turbo diesel engine and challenges the iconic F-150 in all aspects.

What’s new:

The Ford F-150 hasn’t changed much for the 2020 model year. The model offers new appearance packages and expands the availability of the 4G LTE Wi-Fi on every trim. The diesel unit is also available on more trims starting now for the XLT. The Lariat model and above get Co-Pilot360 suite by default. The model comes also with three new color options.

However, the Blue Oval brand is also working on the next-generation F-150 and the proof is the prototype models caught on several occasions. The all-electric version is also in the works and should appear in about two years from now.

2020 Ford F-150 Diesel: Performance

Ford introduced the Power Stroke Turbodiesel engine for the 2019 model year while the main rivals introduced diesel options for the 2020 version.

The Ford’s 3.0-liter PowerStroke V-6 turbodiesel engine makes 250 hp and peak torque of 440 pound-feet. The engine provides low-end confidence but the diesel-powered F-150 isn’t impressive when it comes to the fuel economy and towing. In both mentioned aspects the F-150 Diesel is outperformed by the rival offerings.

The diesel-equipped Ford F-150 can tow up to 11,400 pounds while the payload capacity is up to 1, 940 pounds. The rear-wheel-drive version is rated at 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highways. When equipped with the four-wheel drive and diesel engine the model returns 20 mpg city and 25 highways.

The F-150 Diesel against the competition:

FCA and GM introduced also the diesel options for the recently redesigned models. The newest Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra come with the Duramax turbodiesel and Ram 1500 introduced the third generation EcoDiesel engine.

The GM’s 3.0-liter Duramax inline-6 turbodiesel delivers the class-best 277 hp and suppresses Ford’s PowerStroke engine with a torque of 460 pound-feet. The half-ton Silverado can, however, tow up to 9, 300 pounds. The things are better for the Silverado at the efficiency level. The model manages up to 23 mpg city and 33 highways with the rear-wheel drive.

The Ram’s new-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 delivers 260 hp and the class-best 480 pound-feet of torque. The EcoDiesel-powered Ram 1500 is also the class leader in towing limited at 12, 560 pounds.
