Ford is already planning their Next-Gen 2025 Ford F-150 Electric Pickup Truck. The 2022 model was a huge seller. No wonder, it is the first fully electric pickup on the market. This was a revolutionary move by Big Blue Oval and they are looking to continue the trend. They are America’s favorite pickup for a big reason. Lightning had good range, it had great towing and hauling capabilities. After all, it is a mid-size pickup, so you don’t expect it to tow yachts on a daily basis. It had a lot of great features and technology which people loved.
Several trims and builds allowed for better customization and the buyers were spoiled for choice. There are rumors that they are already working on a refresh. After 2,3 years is the standard frequency of dishing out new designs. So we could expect an improved cabin. Technology is something that changes almost every day and it needs to be updated. On the outside no big changes are probable. Perhaps new colors and some minor modifications. The battery pack and other components are good as they are but there is always space for improvement. Let’s read in more detail what is to come with this refresh.
Ford F-150 Electric Pickup Truck Interior Upgrades
On the inside expect an improved and modernized cabin. Perhaps changed upholstery for the Next-Gen 2025 Ford F-150 Electric Pickup Truck. This means no more leather as we are all about protecting the environment. Maybe fabric or faux leather. Contrast stitching obviously to give it some personality. Heated and ventilated seats are standard nowadays also the messaging feature would be nice. The instrument panel could use some loving too. Putting some chrome or wooden accents would make this ride feel special. The steering wheel has a lot of buttons to keep the driver’s attention on the front.
This adds to the safety aspect. Along with that, we get many safety features that are common but necessary. You get your standard lane departure alert, front collision alert, sensors around the truck, automatic brakes, and many more. The dashboard will remain digital which is an excellent feature. That way we can customize the information we are tracking. A sunroof would be a nice addition this time around as well as ambient lightning. Designers did a great job with the cabin last time the F-150 Lightning was released. Hopefully, they make a few innovations and give people something to fall in love with again.
Improved Styling
The F-150 Lightning is already revolutionary in its mid-size segment. We get numerous outlets that let you charge your gear wherever you are. A new electric platform is arriving. Prior to Honda releasing their own e:Architecture, GM will use and share its Ultium battery pack, which they have already created. In a similar vein, other automakers are developing battery packs that may be used with any body type. Ford is no different. The so-called TE1 truck architecture will make constructing EVs easier and more affordable.
There will be two main battery platforms produced, one for light automobiles and the other for trucks and SUVs. But each automobile will be simpler to assemble and more affordable overall if production methods that can be used across several models are developed. But the expected release date for such platforms is 2025. They then have more ambitious aspirations for the F-150 Lightning and the business overall.
Additional Electric Motor?
There are going to be many improvements and the powertrain is no exception. First of all, there is going to be a massive production volume of this model. The production will take place in Blue Oval City. This is a Ford electric truck factory that is situated in Memphis Tennessee. The 3600-acre factory is all about green energy and not leaving a footprint. This is parallel with the idea of an electric truck. Currently, we have a two-motor setup.
This works perfectly and the only improvement would be adding an additional motor. Something similar to what Tesla did with their Cybertruck. This would also increase power and torque. At the moment, the F-150 Lightning has 452 horsepower with the standard battery size. The extended and more powerful one has 580 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. Improving this with stronger batteries or more motors is an excellent idea. What’s better than an electric pickup? Well, a stronger electric pickup obviously.
Of course, standard charging is not enough so we need fast charging which gives us extra 100 miles with 10 minutes of charging. Multiple outlet choices are needed. Peer-to-peer charging is also something we would like to see on the new Lightning. Towing and hauling capacities need to be improved as well if Ford wants to keep their market share. Ram is also electrifying their Silverado per reports. So if they want to be on top they must have the best electric truck on the market. This is also something simply solved by putting extra batteries. They are currently 130 kWh. Increasing that to 150kWh or perhaps even 200 would be amazing.
Driving Range
With the stronger battery, the current F-150 Lightning gets 78 mpg in the city and 63 on the highway. The Next-Gen 2025 Ford F-150 Electric Pickup Truck should build up on that and improve. Hopefully, more motors or stronger batteries push those numbers to 85 and 70 at least. This would be an excellent selling point as well.
Next-Gen 2025 Ford F-150 Electric Pickup Truck Price and Release Date
Since this model is still in planning we have no official confirmation about either price or the date it arrives. But we expect late 2024 or early 2025 to be the right time for it. The price probably won’t be too different from the current pricing. So, expect to pay around $40,000 for the basic trim. This of course increases with more amenities and stronger batteries.
