Toyota is a leader in innovations and the i-Force system shows why. The Japanese company is the first truckmaker that implement hybrid technology to the truck segment. We are not talking about a small upgrade that doesn’t affect the performance and fuel economy. A V6 is out and the new four-pot mill replaced it. The public is impressed the most with the next-stage system that will be available for the 2025 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid.
The pickup doesn’t have a competition. Jeep Gladiator 4xe is also introduced, but it is a plug-in variant. You’ll find a few more pickups with hybrid systems, but those are compact models, the new segment that is not there to haul big cargo. Such a vehicle will be built by Toyota soon – the Stout truck.
I-Force Max System
Under the bonnet of the 2025 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid is the i-Force Max system centered around a turbocharged 2.4-liter petrol engine. The electric motor adds 48 horsepower to the 278 hp produced by the gas unit. Combined, the system can provide 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Those outputs will draw attention. But, the main question is – how much a hybrid truck can tow? 6,000 pounds is not bad, especially with a high gas mileage as a consolidation. Nevertheless, you can’t get 30 mpg when the pickup is loaded. Anyway, this is a step towards complete electrification, which could happen soon. The Tacoma EV model is already announced.
The base setup can deliver 238 horsepower. A 2.4-liter engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. Toyota fans expect the same configuration for the upcoming 4Runner SUV. The i-Force configuration is turbocharging the four-cylinder powertrain and increases outputs to 278 hp. Maximum towing capacity is 6,500 pounds, which is significantly below the Jeep Gladiator and Chevy Colorado. Still, it doesn’t stop Tacoma from being the top midsize pickup in the market and the gap between it and the second best-selling model shows how reliable the truck is.
Electric Truck
For a long time, the pickup was using a V6 and it was the buyer’s favorite engine. However, Toyota vehicles are evolving. First, the company is replacing big units with smaller and turbocharged mills. Also, more hybrids are available. Not only Tacoma but also bigger Tundra offers such a setup, with of course, a larger petrol engine.
The next stage in the evolution is not far away. Hybrids are decreasing gas emissions and pollution, but zero-emission drivetrains are the ultimate goal. Toyota plans to launch 25 EVs in the foreseeable future, but during the presentation, they didn’t go into details. However, an electric truck is confirmed and the expected release date of the Toyota EV is late in 2025. Other details, such as range and towing capacities are unknown.
2025 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Price
The i-Force Max system is the most expensive of all three choices available for the truck. The pricing of the 2025 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid starts from $40,000. The base version can save around $8,000 and a non-hybrid i-Force setup will be around $38,000. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter editions are not expected to offer a hybrid unit.
