It has been quite a while since Sierra got a facelift, but this is about to change with the upcoming 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD. It was in 2020 when the GMC updated their trucks last time, and there are rumors of the upcoming upgrades and changes to improve their truck line even further.
Although we will probably be getting updates on all truck lines we will be focusing on the heavy duty line. There are spies and rumors from the road, where the trucks were seen during testing. Even Though they were heavily camouflaged and their look was hidden, we were still able to distinguish some changes that were made to the Sierra. It is 3 years detached from the previous change up, but we expect the 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD to be different both in and out.
However, the changes won’t be too drastic, some minor changes are expected but nothing will be changed completely. It is still to be seen whether something will change under the hood and if there are any updates on the powertrain. Interior
The new 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD isn’t going to be completely new when it comes to the cabin. It is still retaining its luxurious and spacious look while giving a lot of utility to the passengers. There will definitely be several cab options. This means that both 3 passenger versions and five-passenger versions will be there to accommodate different needs.
There will be enough headroom and legroom for the front and back row of the passengers. As far as seating is concerned it will have that first class feel to it. Expect both high quality fabric and leather upholstery. It is durable for sure since it is a working truck. And no one likes to get rips on their seats quickly. Heated and ventilated seats would be a nice addition. Especially since working doesn’t stop during hot summers and extremely cold winters.
Most of the controls will be available on the central infotainment system. We hope for at least 10 inches, this would enable even the people sitting in the back to enjoy the fun. To add more luxury and class, GMC is putting wireless charging for smartphones in the 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD. We can expect Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with Bluetooth to enable the best connectivity. A wifi hotspot should also be available. Don’t believe we will be getting an all-electric dashboard. But, it would be extremely nice to get it. This would be a great step towards modern and technologically advanced vehicles. And GMC is also one of the manufacturers that claimed to put all-electric vehicles on the market during the next decade.
GMC should improve their safety as per reports. Driver’s aid software or some sort of artificial intelligence should improve safety by far. These systems are quite popular in today’s vehicles and in a working trucks, this is a gift most welcomed.
Exterior
There are some changes coming on the outside of the 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD as well. This is a heavy duty truck and is a giant when trucks are concerned. So it doesn’t take too much makeup to make the new Sierra even more menacing and aggressive. The front grille was big, to begin with, but it looks like it got a wider smile. This is just a style improvement over the old one, but also a functionality improvement as well.
A bigger grille means better air intake and better air circulation under the hood. This means that drivers will be able to push the truck to its limits. Which is a great option on a truck that is supposed to roar and haul and tow for a whole day. Spy photos (from GMAuthority) show very distinctive chrome wheels. This is a nice addition, it will surely shave off unnecessary weight. Which will further improve the power to weight ratio and make the car faster and stronger. Certain trims are more focused on the outlandish off-road work. And as such, they will have more ground clearance, perhaps bigger and off-road specific tires are coming with that package as well.
The headlight design is getting a facelift, both front, and back. Whether this is to improve visibility or just a style matter is uncertain. There is also a row of LED lights on the top of the car. This makes those night shifts even easier and safer.
2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Engine Options
The 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD is getting even more powerful. As if it was even needed. The truck will boast the same engine as the Silverado HD. This engine can produce 505 horsepower and upwards of 1000 pound-feet of torque. Which is a lot considering the size of the truck. This is a certain upgrade when compared to the previous engine used in the Sierra.
Previously a 6.6 liter V8 diesel Duramax was available. This beast was able to produce 445 horsepower and around 900 pound-feet of torque. There were rumors about an all-electric version or at least a hybrid Sierra. But we don’t see this too probable. After all, this is a heavy duty truck and technology isn’t as advanced to completely replace the gas-guzzling trucks that haul weight with ease.
2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Price and Release date
We are expecting to see the new 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD on the road sometime in the second half of 2022. This of course is due to delay since there is a pandemic running wild for the last couple of years. Delays like this one are prone to happen and it shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The starting price is reported to be around $40.000 for the basic trim. Further customization and upgrades will increase the price significantly. Nevertheless, we are eager to see the new Sierra roar on the tarmac and off it.
