Big trucks don’t get much love, this will change with the 2024 Nissan Frontier. There were numerous rumors about Nissan shutting down some of their pickups. This doesn’t come as a surprise as their sales dropped. Also, they weren’t on par with other pickups in the same category. But one name is about to continue on. We are talking about the Frontier of course. This mid-size pickup is one of the favorites in that segment. Can’t blame people for liking something that is awfully good and well-performing. On top of that, Frontier was always equipped with the best technology and modern styling.
Per reports, this refresh will be a mid-cycle refresh and won’t introduce any drastic changes. On the inside, we can expect minor styling changes and improved design. The last time around the cabin was a bit crowded, looking for Nissan to fix that. On the outside expect to see a pickup similar to its predecessor. Not much should change as they already have a winning formula. Simple tweaks to improve handling and maneuverability should suffice. Under the hood, we might see a new lineup of engines. Perhaps even some electrification is in order. Let us read in more detail what is coming with this refresh for the Frontier.
Interior Improvements
On the inside designers really put their thinking caps on. The 2024 Nissan Frontier is getting better cushioning and improved lumbar support. This is important especially since this truck goes off-road quite often. No one likes having a stiff back after a bumpy ride. The central infotainment system on the instrument panel is present. It has standard connectivity and is 13 inches in size. For all we know, Frontier is still a full four-door truck.
This means it can seat 5 people comfortably with plenty of legroom and headroom. Luxury is increased by some chrome and leather accents which are a breath of fresh air honestly. It remains to be seen what kind of safety features will be introduced. But we can imagine there will be your standard lane departure alert, front collision alert, cameras, and sensors all around to make parking easier. Also hands-free driving might be introduced. Perhaps Nissan will borrow the technology from someone or invest in their own.
Mild Exterior Upgrades
On the outside, the Frontier is not changing much. The fresh 2024 Nissan Frontier looks like its predecessors. It did receive some curves to improve aerodynamics and ergonomics on the road. This reduces wind drag and gives it better fuel efficiency. Wheel rims are 19 inches of lightweight aluminum. This takes off some of the unnecessary weight.
The front mesh isn’t too big but has enough air intakes to keep everything cool under the hood. Bumpers are seamless and they fit into the overall design. They have winch and hook capability. A standard cargo bed of 5.5 feet is present. And ride height is increased a bit from the previous redesign.
Nissan Frontier Engine Specs
Nissan always made this truck a bit outdoorsy. They gave it a toolset to tackle the wild and tackle it well. So, we are looking for that trend to continue. This means that the engine has to be reliable and long-lasting and able to take tremendous amounts of stress. Per report, the newly refreshed 2024 Nissan Frontier will have a good old 3.8-liter V6 engine. This can produce 310 horsepower with 281 pound-feet of torque. This is more than enough to move it around, but we are a bit worried about the small count of torque. This can prove troublesome during off-roading. Especially on heavy terrains such as mud or sand. This will be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The platform that the Frontier resides on is unchanged. This means that the engine will also remain as it is. But there is a diesel rumor circling around. This would increase the power of wheel spinning and would also increase the horsepower a bit. But we are more worried about a hybrid option or a fully electric Frontier. A hybrid powertrain would solve a lot of problems for the current powertrain setup. This would give it more power, torque, and longevity. One or a single electric motor setup should be the best option. One for the front and one for the back wheels. These motors can also run on their own for about 50-100 miles.
Depending on the size of the vehicle of course. On top of that, they can recharge during driving and you don’t have to stop too often. Constantly helping the gas-guzzling engine means it is not under stress and can last much longer. But to take it up a notch, a fully electric Frontier would be even better. A battery pack under the cabin would improve stability and handling. Give more cargo space up front. The size of the battery should be on the bigger side. Perhaps 150kWh or 200kWh should suffice. This would put the range above 300 miles which is the bare minimum. Full electrification is not in the books right now for the 2024 Nissan Frontier. But there is still time before the truck rolls off the production track and we can only hope.
Fuel Economy
This truck has decent mileage. And should be the top choice for those looking to save some money on gas. We get 10 mpg in the city and 14 on the highway. This would be improved a lot by introducing a hybrid powertrain as we already mentioned.
2024 Nissan Frontier Price and Release Date
Expect the 2024 Nissan Frontier to hit the road later in 2023. Probably summer if everything goes as planned. Starting price for this marvelous pickup should be around $30000. This is of course the basic trim and expects the price to go up depending on the amenities you choose.
I was hoping that there will be a Hybrid version in an All Wheel Drive as well as the 4 Wheel Drive .
Here one hopes that they will introduce a Hybrid version. But I guess not.
