Recently we got confirmation from Ford, that they are rolling out their 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning. This is a first fully electric truck by Big Blue Oval. After decades of dishing out simple gas-guzzling trucks, this comes as a breath of fresh air. After all, Ford is America’s favorite truck. Although, market sales don’t represent this. It is often beat by Ram 1500 which isn’t a surprise as this is an excellent truck as well. Ford is just on time, as we heard through the grapevine that Ram is putting a battery pack in their truck as well.
So how much exactly is Lightning going to differentiate from other F-150 models? On the inside, we expect some stylistic changes. Also improved technology and safety features. This is the only electric truck by Ford, it should feel special. On the outside, the same story. Make the pickup look special to stand out in the crowd of classic powertrain pickups. There is a lot of interesting information surrounding the powertrain or should we say the battery pack. This is truly a big milestone in Ford’s history. Let’s read more details about the F-150 Lightning.
Ford F-150 Lightning Interior
On the inside, Ford is probably going to make this truck special as well. This means that the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning is about to get an exclusive treatment. Expect specially designed upholstery with contrast stitching. Several colors will be available no doubt. Heated and ventilated seats are standard and on several trims even massaging features will be available. The dashboard is fully digital which makes sense since the truck itself is futuristic and electric.
This allows for special customization of the screen and tracking of all the important information. A lot of safety features are available in the pickup. We get standard lane change alert, front collision alert, automatic brakes, and a lot of cameras and sensors to make parking seem like a breeze. The infotainment system is in the middle of the instrument panel and is 13 inches. This allows for the back row of passengers to join in on the fun and there will be a back row as this is a five-seater.
Exterior Design
On the outside, we have a classic F-150 look. Ford did give it several features to signify just how special the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning actually is. It has a bit blocky design but it is made in an aerodynamic way. This gives it better range and handles better on the road. No front mesh for Lightning. There is no need for air intake because of the lack of an engine. It has a specially designed platform to accommodate batteries and other electrical components.
The headlight design is not changed, it is the same as on other F-150s. There are 2 LED bulbs vertically placed. Bumpers are seamless and they don’t protrude. The ride height is over 8 inches which allows it to go a bit off-road. The cargo bed is a classic 5.5 feet and can accommodate decent hauling. Tailgate is also multifunctional and it can serve as a seat, a step, or a stopper.
Driving Range, Acceleration, Charging Time
This is the first fully electric truck. Ford did an amazing job with their 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning and is looking to get a big share of the market with its production. Under the hood, you will probably find nothing. It is space free for a trunk. Everything that moves this truck sits under the cabin. This also improves handling and stability on the road and gives it better balance. The truck will be moved around with the power of two electric motors.
One is a standard range and the other has an extended battery range. Of course, all-wheel drive is present. The battery pack in it is so powerful that it can power a whole household, for up to 3 days. Talking about impressive feats. It can haul up to 2000 pounds and tow 10000 pounds which is no joke. From zero to sixty it needs a mere 4 seconds. The two motors and all-wheel drive convince us that this is made for the off-road. The empty hood gives 14.1 cubic feet of extra space. You can expect 452 horsepower with the standard range battery. An extended and more powerful one will give you 580 horses with 775 pound-feet of torque.
This will get you out of tight spots especially if you get stuck off the road. You don’t have to worry about rolling this truck since it has a low center of gravity. This is due to the battery pack being in the middle of the chassis. The smaller battery is 98 kWh and it can go 230 miles without recharging. The bigger one is 131 kWh and it runs for 320 miles. It accepts charging from 110 and 220-volt outlets. And fast chagrin ability is present. This means from 15 percent to 80 in just 44 minutes. This is impressive and will surely come in handy if you are in a pinch.
Fuel Economy
The extended range battery gets 78 miles per gallon in the city and 63 mpg on the open road. The standard battery is a bit weaker with 76 in the city and 61 on the open road. The Platinum trim did a bit less even with just 54 mpg. But we are sure that these are impressive numbers for a big truck.
2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Price and Release Date
