The one-ton, heavy-duty 2021 Ram 3500 goes on sale after the recent full redesign and it isn’t expected to get any significant upgrade. The heavy-duty Ram trucks were all-new for the 2019 model year when they arrived with the stronger and lighter frame. The trucks received also the upgraded powertrains and transmissions. The fifth-generation Ram 3500 is also more comfortable and techier than ever. What is more important, the Ram heavy-duty haulers are also more capable than ever.
The 2020 version received also a new round of upgrades related to the equipment availability and new package options. An array of active safety systems is available in all versions and the 2020 model added also new color options.
The upcoming 2021 model should come with some changes in the equipment grouping and with several new features such as new color and wheel options. The model will return with the same engine range and towing capability. The trim range should also remain the same.
2021 Ram 3500: Design
The fifth-generation Ram 3500 is more capable than ever thanks to the structural and equipment upgrades. The adoption of stronger and lighter underpinning improves the model’s performance and towing capability. The truck sports also more modern and muscular presence than the previous generation version.
The upcoming 2021 Ram 3500 will remain the same both structurally and visually. The model will receive a new round of visual upgrades for the next mid-cycle that should occur around the 2022 model year. The next model year should just bring new color and wheel options and several trim-specific modifications.
The truck returns with three cab styles including the two-door regular cab and two four-door cabs. The regular cab will again come with the long 8-foot cargo bed. The four-door versions will be available with the long and short cargo boxes.
Interior:
Following the recent redesign, the heavy-duty Ram trucks boast the best in class interiors. Depending on the trim level and cab configuration, the model goes on sale with various material quality, equipment quantity and interior comfort. The massive Mega Cab models provide the largest rear seat in the segment.
The truck offer also tons of modern equipment and tech systems. There are various infotainment options and standard active safety equipment. The material quality improves gradually with each upper trim. The range starts with the vinyl seats and switches to the cloth upholstery in the next trim. The mid-range Laramie trim introduces the leather upholstery while upper grades use more premium materials and trim inserts.
Equipment:
At the equipment level, most one-ton Ram trucks come with front and parking sensors while additional active safety systems are available through the optional Safety Group Package. The package adds forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, etc.
The base model should return with the 5-inch infotainment display, keyless ignition and air conditioning.
The Big Horn version will switch to cloth upholstery adding also keyless entry, larger wheels and chrome elements.
The mid-range Laramie version will upgrade with the larger 8.4-inch center touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, a 115-volt power outlet, heated front seats and steering wheel, 10 speakers and more.
The top trims will lift the stake with leather upholstery and specific exterior and in-can inserts. There will also be the heated and ventilated front seats, a 12-inch touchscreen, 17 speakers, surround-view cameras, and much more.
2021 Ram 3500: Performance, Towing
The 2021 Ram 3500 will rely on the same engine options as the reports claim and there are no details about possible performance upgrades.
The base engine will remain a 6.4-liter V-8 gasoline unit paired with 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine is good for 410 hp and torque of 429 lb-ft.
A 6.7-liter Cummins inline-6 turbodiesel engine will be an alternative to the base gasoline unit. This engine provides 370 hp and torque of 850 lb-ft. The high-output version of this engine makes 400 hp and torque of 1, 000 lb-ft. Both Cummins versions are paired with the six-speed automatic transmission.
The most capable Ram 3500 can tow up to 35, 100 pounds. The maximum payload capacity is 7680 pounds.
2021 Ram 3500: Release, Price
The next 2021 Ram 3500 should go on sale in the last quarter of the year. With no major upgrades expected the price range should stay close to the current. The base Ram 3500 should be available from about $36, 000.
