Another big pickup is on the way; it seems we will be introduced to the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD. Not everyone has a dire need for a heavy-duty pickup and all it has to offer. Big pickups fill a certain niche, and they aren’t as versatile as mid-size pickups. Hence, they are not the top-selling category among trucks. But even though they are mostly workhorses, that doesn’t mean they come without any style or marvelous design.
Things have changed a lot since the first pickups, and now they often come as very luxurious options. This is also true for the new Silverado HD line of pickups. They have amazing cabins, both in terms of design and storage solutions. The exterior most likely won’t change too much, but there will be some updates. Mostly they will be concerned with the functionality and modernizing the pickup so it is up-to-date.
We don’t want it to look old when compared to other competitors in its class. The powertrain has a good chance of remaining unchanged. After all, why change something that works perfectly? But there might be some surprises; rumors have it that there is some sort of electrification incoming. Let’s look at all the details we have on it.
The upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD has an improved cabin. There will still be enough space for five passengers and plenty of legroom. There is a big 13-inch screen for infotainment as well as a fully digital dashboard. Some models will have a heads-up display, which is another great amenity that improves the driving experience.
There will be new upholstery with high-quality leather and contrast stitching. Nowadays, there must be a certain amount of luxury in pickups, no matter if they are simple workhorses. So expect to see some chrome accents as well as wooden details across the cabin. The moonroof is unlikely, but the High Country trim might get one due to its high price.
The outside of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD looks similar to its previous version. There will be increased ground clearance on some models. Especially those centered around off-roading like the ZR2. The tailgate is brand new and multifunctional. It can serve as a step, seat, and stopper.
The cargo bed is the standard length, and there will be extra storage solutions in it. Wheel rims are 19 inches and made of lightweight aluminum. The front fascia is made in a similar fashion, shiny and light. This should shave off some weight to make the pickup faster.
The new 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD is going to continue in a similar fashion as it did before. We are of course talking about an engine offer that is already existing. Engineers have decided that the pickup is good with the current lineup. And we must say that we agree with them. The two engines currently on offer are powerful, durable, and have decent fuel economy considering this is a heavy-duty pickup.
Big pickups require big engines; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. First up, we have a gasoline-powered 6.6-liter V8 engine. This engine comes with 400 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It is very powerful and just what the doctor ordered for the mighty Silverado HD. It can tow a bit over 19,000 pounds, which is among the best in class. Next up, we have the much-beloved diesel option.
It is a 6.6-liter V8 Duramax turbo-diesel engine. This bad boy can produce 470 horses along with 975 pound-feet of torque. Now this will make most people be left in awe after they ride in the new HD truck. The extra torque can come in handy while towing. Also, the difference is noticeable the most in difficult terrain. By utilizing all of its power, the diesel engine feels right at home on terrains such as mud, sand, and snow.
Both of these engines are equipped with a 10-speed automatic Allison transmission. There is also an adaptable suspension that, in a matter of seconds, can adapt to new and difficult terrain. This ensures the most comfortable ride possible. The pickup also has locking differentials on both axles. The rumor has it that the new Silverado 3500 HD will come with a battery pack as well.
While some believe this isn’t a good idea, there are many benefits to EV pickups. Well, for starters, zero pollution is a big one. Nowadays, electric vehicles aren’t weak and can often outperform their gas-guzzling counterparts. Take Cybertruck or Rivian R1T for example. They offer tremendous power and torque; no one comes close in the class. Some people are still baffled at how many people oppose electrification.
But considering this is a heavy-duty pickup, we can expect a battery of well over 200 kWh; Tesla puts a 300 kWh one in their pickups. This should result in a vehicle design that outperforms the current one and is also good for the environment. Diesel engines will be obsolete soon, unfortunately, due to their polluting nature. So perhaps it is time for Chevy to make the change.
The fresh 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD doesn’t have any fuel economy information. This is due to Chevy not actually testing the HD line of pickups. But we know that the big 6.6-liter engines require a lot. So we are expecting to get between 13 and 15 mpg of combined driving. With an electrical powertrain, this matter wouldn’t be an issue.
The new 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD will be on the road later this year. Probably the last quarter of 2023, this is just in time when most manufacturers unveil their creations. The price will depend on the trim you choose. There is Work Truck at $45000, Custom at $48000, LT trim at $49000, and LTZ at $59000. We also have more luxurious models High Country at $72000 and the off-roading ZR2 at $80000.
