2023 Mitsubishi L200 Review: Specs, Changes, and Price

Another well-known name is getting a refreshment as well, this time around it is the 2023 Mitsubishi L200. Sometimes known under a different name, Mitsubishi Triton, has been around for ages. The first one was made in 1978 and since then Mitsubishi has been updating and improving the old reliability. Keeping up with the likes of Ford, GM and Ram are not easy. So the Japanese manufacturer has to jump through hoops to make it happen.

Perhaps Mitsubishi doesn’t have the truck pedigree as its US counterparts. But it checks all the boxes and performs admirably. The current version has been in production for quite some time. This would be a great time for a mid-cycle refresh. The extent of changes we can expect is still unknown. But hopefully, the interior gets some tweaks. It is bland and outdated. This includes the technology and gadgets which are quite frankly cheap looking.

Outside we don’t expect too many moves, making it more contemporary is given. But other than that, the L200 looks just fine. Under the hood, there is a place for improvement but we will have to see how far Mitsubishi is willing to go. Keep reading to learn more about the extent of changes coming up with the brand new 2023 Mitsubishi L200.

Interior

As we already mentioned, the current L200 doesn’t look dashing on the inside. Changes have to start from somewhere and this might be the best place to begin. The new 2023 Mitsubishi L200 should have better seating for starters. No more racing-type seats and those good-looking chairs. Perhaps putting some better cushioning and making it more ergonomic will do the trick. Also, lumbar support is very important. Whether you use your truck for work or just your everyday agenda, you want to be as comfortable as possible.

No one likes their back getting stiff and having issues with their spine due to bad seats. Heated and ventilated seats would also add comfort and at this point, they are not so difficult to make.

The instrument panel needs to go out, this plastic-looking thing is just something ancient. Putting some quality material on it, leather or soft felt plastic could work. Lining it with a bit of chrome or perhaps even accents of wood is possible. This would increase luxury and make it feel like a first-class drive. There is of course a central infotainment system on the said panel. Four major air vents with several more to the side, frankly they aren’t that noticeable which is good. The touchscreen should be no less than 10 inches, this allows everyone to join in on the fun.

The car seats five people comfortably, although we are still uncertain which cab options are available. But we know they are all full four-door cabs. The steering wheel also has some cushioning to make it more comfortable to drive for hours. There are buttons present on the steering wheel and the panel. So we are not having a completely minimalistic look in the new 2023 Mitsubishi L200.

The dashboard is reportedly digital, this is great and allows drivers to keep track of more things more easily. The button’s presence on the steering is also important for safety. That way all focus is on the road and what is ahead. Connectivity is standard, Apple Car Play and Android Auto along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi hotspot in the cabin.

Driver aid software is essential and frankly always present in some form. Usually, we get pedestrian detection, lane change alert, collision alert, and automatic braking. Mitsubishi might have its safety software in the making. Also, we would like to see them implement hands-free driving. This is possible since there are SuperCruise and BlueCruise.

Made by GM and Ford, they allow drivers to relax a bit behind the wheel and allow for computers to take them down 200 000 miles of pre-mapped roads in the US. Whether this is possible for Mitsubishi, we don’t know but it would be great to have this option as well.

Exterior

On the outside, the 2023 Mitsubishi L200 looks quite similar to its predecessors. When it comes to overall look and design, the body shape and dimensions are unchanged. Except for the wheelbase, which is a bit wider this time around. Also, the truck looks sleek and more ergonomic as well as aerodynamic.

Along with a more aggressive look, it also has better performance due to these changes. Especially fuel economy. The wheels are 18 inches standard but there is an option for 20-inch ones. Tires are off-roading ones right off the bat. On the front, we have a smaller mesh than with other pickups. This still allows for enough air intake under the hood and it can keep things cool without any problems. The headlights are new, they are linear and there is another vertical set of lights under the first ones.

Both latest LED technology for the best possible visibility. Perhaps a panoramic roof could add some more style. The cargo bed is 5.5 feet with a top-of-the-line tailgate. Several options are still unknown. Ride height is increased to avoid obstacles getting stuck under the L200.

2023 Mitsubishi L200 Engine Options

There are several options on the table for the 2023 Mitsubishi L200. First up in Europe we have a 2.3-liter turbodiesel. It has four cylinders and 145 horses with 295 pound-feet of torque. Asia will offer a 2.4-liter diesel with 180 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. There is a standard two-wheel drive, but you can choose the four-wheel one.

According to rumors, there is a possibility for a new L200 to be offered on the US market also. This version comes powered by a 168 hp 2.4-liter gas engine.

The new Mitsubishi L200 for 2023 can tow up to 7.500 pounds with ease. Hybrid technology is nothing new and Mitsubishi is using Outlander’s PHEV hybrid system. It might even be using a diesel engine for the system which would be something completely new. In the US a gas engine is most probable, it remains to be seen which one, but we are quite certain it will be more powerful than the previously mentioned engines.

2023 Mitsubishi L200 Price and Release Date

The 2023 Mitsubishi L200 will be on the road later this year, and the starting price should be around $30.000. This is of course for the basic trim and will increase with some amenities added.
