The upcoming 2022 Toyota Tacoma is getting a redesign. The Tacoma pickup truck became one of the most popular and most reliable buying options in the segment. It is a model with so much to offer. For an instance, the 2022MY will offer gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powertrain options. On top of that, its range-topping off-road TRD Pro trim level is quite impressive. Tacoma looks modern and its interior is both comfortable and spacious.
Performances are equally great and this is the best mid-size pickup truck in our honest opinion that you can get. The 2022 Tacoma will introduce a redesign, but we also expect to see a lot of new amenities and more standard features. The sales will begin later this year and the new Tacoma will cost more than its predecessor.
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is getting additional cosmetic upgrades. This time, the manufacturer opted for the exterior redesign. First of all, hybrid or diesel variants will look exactly like the base gasoline-powered Tacoma. All versions are getting the same updates. The current generation of the Tacoma pickup is present for five years and now the next-gen Tacoma is coming to the markets. And while we also expect a couple of mechanical upgrades, the current architecture remains.
At this moment, we don’t know that much about a possible new design. However, we can confirm that the biggest upgrades will happen upfront. Toyota will deliver a brand-new grille and bigger headlights. New exterior colors will refresh the vehicle’s appearance and we also expect to see a slightly more aggressive styling.
It is confirmed! The 2023 version will get a full redesign. Find out all about redesigned 2023 Tacoma.
The interior of the 2022 Toyota Tacoma is also about to gain some important updates. Still, the changes are not so drastic as on the outside. Anyway, the new Tacoma will arrive with the latest version of the infotainment system. On top of that, the mid-size pickup truck is getting the newest driver-assistance aids. Toyota will also provide more standard equipment to all of Tacoma’s trim levels.
Basically, new features will be optional in the base Tacoma. We don’t know if the current 8-inch touchscreen will be replaced, but this unit will most likely remain standard. The dashboard will be modernized and upper trim levels will gain even more premium stuff.
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma offers a couple of engine options. The SR and SR5 trim levels are using a smaller 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 160 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. A 3.5-liter V6 is optional on those two trim levels but it is standard in all other variants. Potent V6 engine develops 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of twisting power. A hybrid Tacoma uses a three-motor setup and the mentioned V6 powertrain.
Tacoma Hybrid is capable of producing 310 horsepower and around 300 lb-ft of torque. Finally, a diesel engine will reportedly become available as well. It is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel output that will reportedly deliver over 200 horses and 370 lb-ft of torque. If you want a high-performance off-road variant, Tacoma TRD Pro is the best variant in the segment, along with the Jeep Gladiator and its Rubicon and Mojave trim levels.
The price of the all-new 2022 Toyota Tacoma will start at around $27,500. We are still waiting for the manufacturer to reveal more details. This popular mid-size pickup truck will hit the dealerships later in 2021, most likely this fall. The production started in Mexico and Tacoma will continue to rival Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, and Chevy Colorado.
