2018 Nissan Titan XD: Changes, Performance, Price, Release

Nissan’s half-ton diesel pickup truck will host a few important changes for the upcoming year. Though don’t expect anything too big, especially not under the hood and performance wise. No, the 2018 Nissan Titan XD will feature some, small, yet important improvements, which are basically manufacturer’s answer to the customer’s biggest criticisms.

2018 Nissan Titan XD: Exterior Changes

According to information we have, the oil-chugging will host an optional sunroof. The feature will be a part of the new generation Frontier as well. In addition, they might add power folding tow mirrors, while the exterior could feature a few new paints. Some reports indicate that the pickup truck is getting a restyled grille, but that’s only possible if the carmaker decides to introduce a completely new trim level. Otherwise, that’s not going to happen to the 2018 Titan HD.

Unchanged Performance

Like we said already, the amazing workhorse will keep its engine unchanged without any doubt. The truck will rely on a 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V-8 that makes 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque. Don’t get me wrong, the engine delivers impressive power and whopping torque, but it places the pickup somewhere in the middle. By using the oil-burner, the Titan beats its regular competitors, but it can’t really compete with and Heavy Duty competitor.

For example, Ram cooperated with Cummins and managed to boost the 6.7L Turbo Diesel up to 930 lb-ft f twist. It’s quite clear that Nissan’s full-size truck can’t come close the figure, well, never. Still, together with a heavy duty Aisin 6-speed automatic, the oil-chugging achieves to tow up to 12,314 pounds, while max payload capacity reaches 2,594 pounds.

The new 2019 Nissan Titan XD Diesel comes with same powertrain unit as 2018 model and has combined fuel economy of 16.5 mpg.

Cab Updates and Price

Inside, the 2018 Nissan Titian XD might get an updated infotainment and perhaps new upholstery, but nothing else for sure. The update will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and possibly a larger display. The truck currently features the most comfortable seats, so we can’t really see why the carmaker would change anything there. What might change are a few additional USB ports and a maybe charging pad, but that would be pretty much everything. For those that hope to see a locking differential available for all trims, well, you can hope, but that’s not going to happen for sure.

Even though it’s going to feature a few changes here and there, the 2018 Nissan Titan XD truck will keep its price unchanged. The interesting oil-burner workhorse will probably cost somewhere around $33,000. The vehicle will become available in early 2018.

  • For Nissan to be competitive in this segment they have to do A LOT of important changes. I know they are trying to be in this grey area compared to other truck's but common, they still have to compete, its till classified as a 3/4 ton truck. They have to have the Diesel power to match the big 3. truck buyers want numbers! the XD should have at least 400hp and 800lb of tourque. Next the titan XD needs a 30-40 gal. diesel tank. next the XD needs power folding tow mirrors and an optional sunroof. And most of all they need to incorporate an exhaust brake. if nissan can add those things to the titan XD for a lower price point than the big 3 i think they will have a very capable truck, and will start to attract buyers from the big 3.

    • Not all truck buyers want the expense of a 6.7 L diesel. The Titan XD offers plenty of power, but with a lower cost and better fuel efficiency. A larger fuel tank would be nice, but it's less necessary for those of us who don't buy on "numbers".

      • Titan offers a 50 gallon replacement tank. $1,300.00. Go to titanfueltanks.com.
Re-calibrate the ECM to calculate for the additional fuel and you;re good to go.
They also need to double the size of the def tank, add a sunroof and maybe bump
up the numbers on the diesel a little. That should take care of things for a while.

    • Who cares about Apple, thats old news. Apple phones still suck and too complicated to use. I am done with them last year

  • The 2018 Titans do not include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Nissan has continued with its Nissan Connect system. As the owner of a 2017 Titan I can tell the connect system is garbage.

  • I own a titan xd cummins. for those who keep trying to compare the 5.0 to its big brother the 6.7 that's just ridiculous. upon purchasing my titan never did the salesman say "Nissan is competing in the hd market." it was told to and sold to me that it is the middle man. not a 3/4 ton but much stronger then a 1/2 ton. it does everything it is advertised to do. yes bigger fuel tank as well as def would be nice but damn have we gotten that lazy to stop for fuel a little bit more often matters. as for a sunroof its nice when weather permits but here in west texas just another broken piece of glass after golf to tennis and bigger hail hits it. as for the Nissan connect system it works just fine for simple everyday use. the Rockford fosgate stereo is amazing even when up against the much more expensive ones out there. to Nissan motors and cummins keep up the good work the truck is a damn good truck.

    • I agree with everything you said, but I pull a 28 ft. gooseneck trailer and a bigger fuel tank would be nice not to have to pull in every 220 miles to refuel. Also a top of the line truck, as my titan xd platinum, should have electric folding mirrors, or at least be available as an option.

  • Titan xd does have exhaust brake , read owners manual on this operation . Bigger fuel tank standard would be nice , truck has done me good .
