This isn’t the first time you hear rumors about Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck and won’t be the last time without any doubt. However, unlike some previous reports, which were strictly rumor-based, this time we have pretty much everything about the Swedish workhorse.
The future pickup truck will be heavily influenced by the largest SUV from Volvo. This is why we call it the XC90 Pickup Truck. Of course, the official name is going to be different, but that’s not too important. It’s far more important what the carmaker plans to do with it. The pickup truck will definitely feature the pretty much the same front-end design as the aforementioned SUV sibling. Volvo won’t skip the chance to add Thor hammer headlights and the amazing grille treatment. The bed will probably be about the same dimensions as Mercedes’ new X-Class. This means that the vehicle must get a few additional inches in length. Volvo could use some lightweight materials to reduce weight, but don’t expect to be implemented into the bed.
The Swedish automaker plans to electrify the complete lineup, which means that the Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck could use a plug-in hybrid powertrain or even an all-electric system to compete with Tesla’s upcoming pickup. While we don’t know anything about the electric powertrain, we know what’s cooking beneath the hood of the plug-in. The pickup will almost definitely use a T8 Twin-Engine, which currently delivers 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. The unit combines a 2.0-liter inline-4 mill with 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of twist, a rear-mounted 87-hp AC motor, as well as a 46-hp electric motor. The drivetrain is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The pickup truck will allegedly be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Aside it’s going to look good and will feature the amazing powertrain, the Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck will also host some amazing technologies. If the Swedish carmaker plans to compete with Tesla’s electric truck it will have to add the best possible semi-autonomous system. Of course, the vehicle will have the newest infotainment and entertainment. The cabin will get a leather treatment and the finest materials.
We don’t have any idea when the Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck may arrive at the market, but we know it’s going to be priced over $50,000.
