Things in the heavy-duty truck class are about to be changed if the 2025 Ram 2500 gets the Allison transmission. After upgrades, this gearbox made the Silverado HD lineup more than competitive. Ram already struggles with the AISIN case. With this move, trucks will gain extra towing capacity and driving will be much easier (including hauling heavy loads).
The main question was if it is possible to replace the current transmission with the Allison. Experts say yes, although there are different opinions. Not only the 2025 Ram 2500, but also the Ram 3500 will introduce this change. Besides that, fans are expecting the redesign of the vehicle, which might happen already with the 2024 YM. If the company doesn’t do it next year, the 2025 YM will definitely be redesigned.
The Ram HD lineup is pretty wide with all the options you have at disposal. One of the first things to start is to decide how your truck is going to look. Regular cab is a 2-door model. Crew Cab adds rear doors, but the entrance can still be tricky. The Mega Cab model boosts comfort over other things.
Depending on the cabin configuration, there are short and long boxes. If you want to make hauling more convenient, a big bed is an advantage. Additional packages include cool gadgets, such as power outlets and bedliners. To maximize the towing capacity, you need to select some of the hauling packages. The trailering camera is our recommendation if you want to make the work more convenient.
Under the hood of the 2025 Ram 2500 is a well-known 6.4-liter V8 petrol unit. You can find it supplying power to other big rigs in the FCA’s family, such as Dodge Durango, Jeep Wagoneer, or Ram 1500 pickup. Even HD trucks are using its potential, although not the maximum. On some SUVs, the plant puts out 475 hp, while the heavy-duty 2025 Ram 2500 gets “only” 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity is 17,200 lbs.
Most truckers will opt for the Cummins I6 turbodiesel. This one provides more torque and higher towing potential. Engineers are not squeezing every pony the drivetrain can deliver. For 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, you must select the Ram 3500. For the 2025 Ram 2500, the diesel configuration delivers 370 hp and 850 lb-ft. A small increase is possible for the new 2025 YM. Also, the towing capacity will be higher than 20,000 lbs.
A key change for the 2025 Ram 2500 might be the new transmission. This is a rumor you can hear in the last few months, or maybe a year or so. A retuned Allison transmission improved Silverado HD trucks. Ram fans immediately started exploring the possibility of mating this gearbox to the Cummins engine. It can be done, but not so simple and fast.
Engineers will have to develop a new system and test the configuration in the real world. The investment has to return a much better fuel economy rating, towing capacity, and a smoother ride overall.
A unique model for the Ram 2500 lineup is the Power Wagon. The company will keep its off-road capabilities at the highest level thanks to top-notch technology and upgrades. The Power Wagon is based on the Rebel model. Off-road suspension, 4WD, hill descent control, and locking rear axle are standard. The next stage of tuning adds a manual-shift transfer case, upgraded bumpers, disconnecting front stabilizer bar, unique suspension tuning for the best off-road driving experience and an lectric winch. The Ram Power Wagon also offers special colors and graphics, which will be updated for the upcoming version.
These off-road editions are the most interesting because of their performance. But, there are other cool grades you can select for the 2025 Ram 2500. Unfortunately, the truck is unavailable with a dual-rear-wheel setup, which is reserved only for the 3500 model. But, you can make it luxurious by purchasing Limited or Limited Longhorn editions. These two offer premium multimedia, sound, and safety systems, as well as upscale materials all over the cabin. The price is hefty though.
So, most buyers stick to lower trim levels with good working potential. The Tradesman is an entry-level option, like for most Ram trucks. Big Horn and Laramie are favorite packages, according to previous sales.
The 2025 Ram 2500 will reshuffle options all across the lineup to complete the redesign. Lower trims will get more accessories, while the company is figuring out how to improve off-road and luxury models. The base price will be around $50,000 for the truck with Regular Cab and Tradesman features. With so many configuration options, the high-end price will be around $90,000, which is $10k more than the current Limited model costs.

In my opinion if ram wants to boost sales then they will put the allison transmission in the 3500 the aisin transmission is problematic at best but they need to put it and the h o engine in the 2500 also to compete with Ford f250 if they don't do this ford will out sell ram again and again people are just now understanding the big gm lie that they don't use the allison any longer just the name lie and the duramax engine isn't going to have over 1000lb of torque till it gets a redesign somtime in the future ,so if stellantis wants to outsell ford the allison needs to happen.
