More refreshments are coming our way, this time around it is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate. The mid-size segment of pickups is getting very populated. It is very crowded and it can be very difficult to come out on top and be the top dog. The GMC Sierra is a top seller among its peers. And this is earned as well. The pickup has a lot of features that make it a good buy. It is durable, has good styling and it isn’t too heavy on the wallet. But there is always something that the manufacturer can do better. So, this time around, GMC is going to bring updates to several aspects of the vehicle.
This includes both interior and exterior, as well as the powertrain. We could get newer technology on the inside as well as some safety features. Competition is doing that exact thing and GMC has to follow suit. We don’t suspect anything drastic will happen with the outside look. But some minor tweaks to improve and modernize styling. The powertrain is poised to receive updates. There are also rumors of electrification, but we will have to wait and see what happens. Let’s look at the whole picture concerning the new Sierra.
The inside of the fresh 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is looking modern. There are a plethora of high-quality materials on the inside. We have some chrome to line the doors and instrument panel. As well as top-notch leather upholstery with contrast stitching. There is going to be a 12.3-inch infotainment system in the middle of the panel. There is also an option for a heads-up display on more expensive trims. Seats are power adjustable.
There is enough space for five passengers without any issues. Moreover, there are also some wooden accents on the inside, but that is reserved for more expensive trims. There is a lot of driver-assistance technology that keeps everyone safe. We get one-pedal driving with low-speed occasions. There are multiple cameras to make parking much easier. But most importantly we will have Super Cruise. This is a hands-free driving system that can help drivers relax a bit behind the wheel.
The outside of the 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate looks similar to the previous iteration of the pickup. It is still a thing of beauty while being sturdy and rugged. It tackles the off-road quite well with its improved ground clearance and 33-inch all-terrain Goodyear tires. The wheels are lightweight and 19 inches in size.
They shave off some weight to improve power to weight ratio. The cargo bed is the standard length and the front fascia is shiny and huge. It really makes the pickup aggressive and gives it its iconic look. It handles well on and off the road due to its being ergonomic. But the body design is aerodynamic as well which improves fuel economy.
The engine offer for the 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate is one to be reckoned with. There will be four engines to choose from. This might seem that buyers are spoiled for choice. But more engines simply means the Sierra is more versatile and can fill multiple roles. And that is something that will most certainly give them an upside. The first engine is the smallest of the bunch. It is a 2.7-liter turbo, high-output model. It achieves 310 horsepower with 430 pound-feet of torque. Not bad considering the size of the engine. It maxes out with 9400 pounds of towing. Next up we have a much larger 5.3-liter V8 engine that is very capable. It excels on the open road but is no stranger to difficult terrain. It has 355 horses and 380 pound-feet of torque.
Towing is maxed at around 11000 pounds which is not shabby. For those who say that the diesel engine is irreplaceable, well GMC has you covered. There will be an enhanced 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine. This is the second generation of such an engine and the main ingredient for it are the new steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl. It also has a brand new returned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control. This is top of the class when it comes to diesel engines. This truck achieves 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. It has active thermal control and it paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It maxes out at 13000 pounds and also has four-wheel drive. Pretty impressive for a 3.0-liter engine.
The biggest in the crowd is most definitely the 6.2-liter V8. It also comes with 10-speed automatic transmission and can produce 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It also maxes out at 13000 pounds which is more than enough considering this is not a heavy-duty pickup. The Denali will also feature an EV in its lineup. It will have a whopping 750 horsepower and is already sold out. So, there might be a next wave of orders coming in but don’t hold your breath. We are not certain about the size of the battery pack but considering the power it has it is upwards of 200 kWh. It is not uncommon for pickups to have such power with EV components. Look at Cybertruck or Rivian, we also expect more than two electric motors in the setup.
The new 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate has decent fuel economy. Considering it has some powerful engines, it achieves 23 mpg in the city and 30 on the open road. However, the big 6.2 liters V8 gets 15 mpg and 20 mpg. The range of the EV should be upwards of 400 miles which is impressive.
We can expect to see the new 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate on the road later this year. Probably the last quarter of 2023. There are numerous trims that will dictate the price and number of amenities. There is Pro at $37000, SLE at $50000, Elevation at $52000, and SLT at $57000. Also, we have Denali at $67000, AT4 at $68000, AT4X at $83000, and Denali Ultimate at $84000.
