Ford is about to make a huge refresh, this time around it is the huge 2024 Ford Super Duty. The most talked segment as of now is the mid-size category of pickups. Perhaps because it is the most populated one. It holds the biggest share of the market and no wonder manufacturers want to be the top dog here. It feels almost as if other categories don’t get enough love. For example, the full-size pickup segment isn’t very populated. But it is quite often used for work and heavy hauling. It might lack luxury and style but it has a lot of power.
The Super Duty lineup is in line for a refresh. It has been several years since it has been redesigned or received meaningful updates. This time around we can expect a better-looking interior. Some improved technology and safety features. The exterior will probably look similar to its predecessor. Hopefully, some minor tweaks to improve its performance. But under the hood is where we might see some bigger changes. There might be electrification bound in near future. But this isn’t usually the case for trucks of this size. Let’s see what is going to happen with the new 2024 Ford Super Duty.
The inside is getting some updates in terms of style and technology. The new 2024 Ford Super Duty will get better cushioning and top-of-the-line leather for upholstery. This is excellent and it comes with contrast stitching for some extra style points. Infotainment comes in the form of a 14-inch screen with standard connectivity.
A lot of safety features include lane departure alert, front collision alert, and a lot of sensors and cameras all around to make parking and towing much easier. BlueCruise is also on offer. This is a hands-free driving software that is much sought after recently. It gets over 200 000 miles of pre-mapped road in North America.
The new 2024 Ford Super Duty looks even more aggressive this time around. It has amazing ride height which allows it to go further and higher. It comes with 20-inch lightweight rims. They shave off some weight which improves the power-to-weight ratio. The front mesh is huge, after all, we need a lot of air intakes to cool the mighty V8.
Headlights are C-shaped and wrapped around the mesh. Bumpers have hooks and winch capability and are prominent. But fret not, they won’t get stuck on anything as they have a good approach angle. On some trims, you will get chrome exhaust tips and black running boards. Colors include Atlas Blue, Baja, and Navy pier.
There are several engines on offer for the 2024 Ford Super Duty. This is excellent since different types of work dictate different needs. Some would say that Ford buyers are spoiled for choice when it comes to powertrain options. But the more the merrier. It makes absolute sense that a truck of this size needs a similar engine. So, Ford blessed us all with a powerful V8 in each of the 3 versions. We have a 6.2-liter V8 gas-guzzling engine. This comes with six-speed automatic transmission. It can produce 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Also, we have a 7.3-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This gets a mighty 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque which is more than anyone might need. If that isn’t enough, Ford upped us one step more. We can get a Power Stroke 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This can produce 475 horsepower and 1050 pound-feet of torque. This amount of wheel spinning might come in handy on difficult terrain especially. It can even get to sixty in 7.2 seconds which is amazing for a big size truck. All of these big engines spend big amounts of fuel. This might be a problem with the rising cost of gas all around the globe. So, introducing a hybrid variant or going fully electric would be a great idea for Big Blue Oval.
A hybrid powertrain would introduce one of these engines to its electric motor sibling. Perhaps even two to go the extra mile. This would increase power and performance and decrease fuel consumption. On their own, these motors can run for 40 miles. Since engines aren’t running on full power all the time but they get help, it also increases their longevity. Going fully electric is possible. Just look at what Ford did with Lightning. But a truck of this size would need a big battery pack. Perhaps 200 kWh would do the trick. Besides power it also needs range, and this battery size should put it above 300 miles range which is decent. Fast charging is a must along with peer-to-peer charging. That way you could take power from your colleague in an electric truck wherever you are. Towing capacity for the 2024 Ford Super Duty is around 22000 pounds.
As expected, a truck of this size doesn’t get the best mileage. It gets 11 mpg in the city and 14 on the open road. On a full tank, it can run for 470 miles which is good. As we already mentioned a hybrid powertrain or full electrification would deal with this issue and up those numbers.
Expect to see the 2024 Ford Super Duty roll off the production track sometime during the summer of 2023. This is just in time when other manufacturers are showing off their creations. The price is dictated by the trim you choose. There is Ford Super Duty XL which is $37,895, we have XLT for $43665, Lariat for $52,325. Also, there are more expensive options with King Ranch at $65,995, Platinum at $69,310 and Limited $88,030.
