There is a new truck on the block, it is the all-new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. This truck from Chevrolet is an all-electric pickup. Something you don’t see very often and you don’t expect in a truck. Mainly because pickups are supposed to go to work and that requires a lot of energy.
Most people think that batteries won’t give you enough juice for all that but technology has made strides to make this happen. This truck also has a midgate feature, something that the old Avalanche pickup had. A small gate that can extend the cargo bed and give you a few extra feet of cargo space. Not too shabby I would say. The battery pack needs to be as big as possible to compete with the driving range of regular pickups or hybrids.
Also, let’s not forget this is a pickup and needs to tow and haul a lot of weight to be even considered for purchase. The brand new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is competing directly against other EV trucks and hybrids. Such as Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T or even Tesla Cybertruck. Let’s find out more about the upcoming Silverado EV.
The reporters were allowed a peek inside the new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. There is an RST model that is full of new gadgets and great technology. This is perfect for an all-electric truck, a step towards the future for sure.
We get a glass roof, this is an amazing addition. That way you can enjoy the night sky or let the sunshine in on your long drives. The upholstery is leather with an option for fabric. Color choices are many and we get contrast stitching. This way you can customize the truck to your preference.
There is enough space inside the cabin to go around. We have seats for five people and plenty of legroom so it isn’t all crammed inside. Instead of a regular shifter, we got a Chevrolet-designed column-mounted stalk. That way the cargo between the driver and passenger seat is even bigger.
The dashboard is all digital, quite befitting for an EV truck. In the middle, we can see an infotainment system, 12 inches in size. That way people from the back row won’t miss any of the fun and you can control pretty much anything from there. This includes the air conditioning and driving modes.
There are numerous chrome accents along with the cabin. This is in order to increase the luxury and first-class feel of the truck. Something that most manufacturers have been doing and Chevrolet needed to follow suit.
It would be interesting to see what kind of connectivity we will get. But we suspect it is all the best of it. Meaning Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Bluetooth. Not sure what kind of stereo there is but we hope for a multi-speaker and possibly brand-made.
There will also be driving aid systems. These are quite popular nowadays vehicles. Chevy has their own Super Cruise system. This will pull people out of dangerous situations and save some lives.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV looks quite futuristic. It doesn’t have a front grille in a traditional way. And why should it, it doesn’t need any air circulation and cooling under the hood. Of course, that is due to the truck being fully electric and not having a traditional gas-guzzling engine.
Instead, it has battery packs in the middle of the car, under the cabin. Since it doesn’t have a grille it has a storage compartment under the hood, which is amazing. According to reports, it can fit 3 large suitcases in there. This is great when you remember you also have a whole cargo bed behind the cabin and the midgate feature which extends that cargo bed. This means a whole lot of stuff can fit in the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV without any issues.
The whole pickup looks quite futuristic and sleek. The design is less blocky and more angular, all of this makes it more aggressive, aerodynamic, and modern. The tires are not off-roading, but the wheels are huge 19 inches we suppose.
Made from lightweight materials to save some weight because the battery packs are not light at all. There is a unified LED bar across the front part with small headlights. This is something new and fresh in the headlight design game and we welcome it.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will be powered by two electric motors. According to the manufacturer this setup is made in order to give the car maximum performance. This means better towing and hauling and also acceleration.
The electric system can produce up to 664 horsepower on the stronger trims. The basic trim is around 510 horsepower which is also quite a lot for a pickup that big. It has all-wheel drive as default and also it can have four-wheel steering.
Adaptive air suspension is optional so you might have to spring more money for it. The off-roading trim called Trail Boss will come with beefier tires for driving in the dirt and other goodies specifically designed for driving off the road.
The truck will be able to tow 10000 pounds, Chevy also announced a more powerful model with 20000 pounds towing capacity.
The battery pack is 200 kWh and has a range of 400 miles which is excellent on a single charge. It has a fast-charging ability which means 100 miles with 10 minutes of charging.
The release date is still uncertain, the project got moved a bit because of the pandemic but we perhaps can expect to see it in late 2023.
The price for the basic trim is around $40.000 and depending on what goodies you want, it might cost you extra.
