2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Truck Edition 1: Review

It is finally happening, GMC is releasing a brand new 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Truck. We can all remember then the Hummer was all the hype. It was one of the most popular vehicles for quite some time. It was good looking and it was stylish and it liked to drink a lot of fuel. That was probably one of its biggest flaws.

Perhaps the sole reason why it was discontinued. GMC is planning on reviving this giant but with some changes introduced. Hopefully, the biggest change is the fuel-hungry part. Their solution is quite simple and sophisticated. Making it electric should solve all the problems the previous Hummer had.

Environmental issues are ever present and manufacturers have to pay attention because drivers are also worried about the planet. So making it electric should create a lot of appeal for the 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Truck. Hummer hasn’t been around for quite some time. This means that the technology and style at that time are completely obsolete. This means that the GMC will have to rebuild the truck completely but with the general design idea of its predecessors.

Interior

Seats are ergonomic and are designed for comfort. Materials are available for choosing. Opt for leather, suede, or fabric with contrast stitching, and choose your color. Heated and ventilated seats are available, although we are still not certain whether they will come as standard or you will have to pay a bit extra.

This is a modern interior and it looks like it came off a spaceship. The instrument panel has a minimalistic design with very few buttons and knobs. Most of the controls are on the infotainment system in the middle of the said instrument panel. There are metal accents all along the cabin which adds some luxury points. The truck seats five people comfortably with plenty of legroom and headroom. There are lunar shadow interior and lunar horizon interior trims. They are jet black and light gray with some tech bronze accents. It also has durable all-weather flooring that looks good and is also practical.

There are two touchscreens available in the 2023 GMC Hummer EV truck. The first one is a center-mounted 13.4 inches diagonal color touchscreen. This is also the infotainment system and has all the apps and features you might wish in a tablet. The second one is a 12.3-inch Driver information center display. This is a fully customizable dashboard that is all digital. We must say this makes drivers’ jobs much easier as it is a breeze to keep track of all the information this way.

Safety

There are also buttons on the steering wheel which keep the driver focused on the road ahead. So the safety aspect was also given some attention. There is artificial intelligence software installed as a standard. This means we get pedestrian detection, lane change alert, automatic braking, and many other life-saving features. Hands-free driving is all the hype nowadays and it would be good to get one. And we know for a fact that the 2023 GMC Hummer EV truck will have SuperCruise installed as standard. A panoramic roof would be amazing to have with this stylish interior. Also, ambient lightning is rumored to be available. Seats are foldable so you can get some extra storage.

Exterior

On the outside, the 2023 GMC Hummer EV truck resembles its predecessors. It has the body shape and design of the ever-popular Hummer. But now, it is a modern beast. It foregoes the old blocky look and while retaining the general design it has a lot of curves and angles on the body. This means designers made it ergonomic and aerodynamic. Which in turn should improve fuel economy by decreasing wind drag.

We all know fuel was the biggest bane of the old Hummer. It has a step to help people get inside because it is pretty tall. Also, the new Hummer truck has an adaptive air ride suspension that can raise 6 inches to go over obstacles. It can also crabwalk which means you can turn on 4-wheel steering and drive diagonally. This makes parking much easier as well as getting out of tight spots. There are numerous cameras around the truck to give full vision. There are 35-inch tires with 22-inch rims that are made from lightweight materials.

Pickup is off-road ready and it looks rugged. Since this is an EV it has an extra storage compartment where the engine was. It can fit several suitcases. There is no mesh on the front but a LED bar with headlights to the side. Bumpers are prominent and give it a menacing look. There are some trims where you can take the rooftop off and enjoy some fresh air.

2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Truck Engine Specs:

The engine is the most fun part of the new 2023 GMC Hummer EV truck. Or should we say lack of? It uses Ultium EV technology. Batteries are under the cabin for a better center of gravity and better steering. It can produce 11.500 pound-feet of torque which is a big number.

There are 5 powertrains. GMC offers dual or tri-motor systems. There are 15 module battery systems and 20 module ones. Dual motor hybrid produces 625 horsepower and 7400 pound-feet of torque. The tri-motor version has 830 horsepower. The range on a single charge is 250 miles which are not bad. Zero to sixty in 3.5 seconds which is impressive for a truck this size. Batteries are 200kWh which is more than the Rivian R1T has. It also utilizes an energy recovery system so not all that electricity is wasted.
