2023 GMC Canyon AT4X and AT4: Specs, Price, and Release Date

We have a treat for fans of off-roading trucks, 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X are about to hit the shelves. GMC is giving a much-needed redesign to its Canyon line of trucks. There will be several trims available, and the ones that stirred the most rumors are AT4 and AT4X versions. These are trims that are focused on off-roading while keeping its basic utility idea in mind.

The concept of roaring off the tarmac will dictate how the truck will look on the inside and outside. It will also determine what kind of suspension and ride it will have along with the special tires we hope will be coming with the truck. Both of these versions have been seen on the road and spied pictures are in. Based on what we can see in the pictures fans won’t be disappointed. It is still a beast and looks even madder than before.

Some of those pictures show the trucks are very dirty which we believe is due to them going off the road and showing their capabilities. We have take these spy shots from GMAuthority. Read on to find out more about the upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X redesigns.

Interior

We don’t know much about the interior of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X. So far it is a big mystery and we don’t have any official pictures of the cabin. On some pictures that were available, we don’t see anything too obvious that resembles a change. There will be several trims available: Extended Cab, Long Box, Crew Cab, Short Box, and Crew Cab.

All models will have the same interior, although with some styling changes. We expect amazing seats in the AT4 and AT4X. Simply due to the intended nature of these trucks. They are meant to go off-road, and as we all know it can get a bit bumpy and rough out there. This means the seats need to be comfortable even for long rides. Heated and ventilated seats would be excellent. This means you can enjoy the ride for longer and even if you are using the truck for work you won’t mind the long haul. There should be a standard 7-inch screen in the center of all trims. This is just enough for the back row of passengers to enjoy the fun.

The truck can sit five people comfortably since there is enough legroom and headroom, which is not often seen in off-roading trucks. There will be Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Bluetooth and a wifi hotspot when connectivity is concerned. Leather and high-quality fabric are available as choices for the upholstery. We are not sure how the dashboard will look, but we don’t expect it to be fully digital. GMC will not go fully digital with controls so expect a certain number of buttons and knobs on the control board.

There is also the Denali trim which will include Bose made surround system along with heated side mirrors and some nice 20-inch alloy wheels.

Exterior

Since the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X are off-roading centered trucks, we expect the outside of the truck to look the part. In the pictures we have seen so far the trucks are dirty, which only proves they are tried and tested off the tarmac. The truck has higher than usual rides and the fenders are bigger just in case you run into some obstacles. We are expecting 33 inch Goodyear tires, designed specifically for the off-road role.

We believe that the truck will have a wider aluminum-made grille. This should be done to ensure the best air circulation under the hood. That way, the truck can go roaring off the road even harder and there won’t be any overheating problems with it during work. Aluminum and other alternative materials could be used to shave off weight and further increase the power to weight ratio. Making the truck stronger and faster.

Headlight design could also use a refreshment, making them more modern should be a point of interest for designers. The truck could benefit from a LED bar on the top, since off the road visibility is weak and this would improve safety. Since we haven’t seen a picture of the tailgate we can’t determine what options there will be. But rest assured that GMC will follow suit and add several options and settings to the tailgate to meet all needs and requirements.

General Motors GMT 31XX Platform

The front fascia is at a different angle and gives the truck more ground clearance, again something that was done because it is intended to be used in not-so-perfect environments. The truck uses body-on-frame architecture. The new GMC truck will ride on the GM 31XX-2 platform. This platform is the updated version of the GMT 31XX, which proved sturdy and durable even in the harshest conditions.

2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X Engine Options

There will be several options for powertrain when the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X are concerned. We expect a 2.7 liter, gas-guzzling turbocharged engine. This can produce 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. We would have expected more from an off-roading truck but this is by no means not enough. This engine comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

We will also see the 3.6 liter V6 LGZ gas engine and the 2.5 liter I4 LCV gas engine. Due to emission problems GMC had to cut the Duramax Turbo-Diesel 2.8 L I4 LWN engine. There is still no confirmation about the EV version or the hybrid version of these trucks. But we are not sure if it would be a good fit for the off-roading beast.

2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X Release date and Price

We should see the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 and AT4X on the shelves sometime late this year. Of course, we have seen our share of delays and can expect one to happen because of the pandemic.

Starting price should be around $40.000 for the basic trim.
