The forthcoming 2022 GMC Sierra HD is about to introduce additional improvements. This heavy-duty lineup of trucks is truly impressive. It has so much to offer, from nice looks to luxury interior and great performances. The design is very modern and handsome, while the interior is premium and roomy. Sierra HD is also known for its superb ride quality as well.
Generally, it is a complete model without any real flaws. Because of that, we don’t expect to see major changes. Instead, GM will opt for a mid-cycle facelift that comes with multiple minor updates only. The sales will begin later this year so here’s everything you need to know.
Design-wise, the new 2022 GMC Sierra HD will gain small updates. General Motors clearly feels that there is no need to introduce significant upgrades at the moment. We can agree, as Sierra HD is indeed one impressive truck. It is a robust model with not so aggressive design. Instead, everything about this model is so stylish and premium. Most of the styling cues are taken from a smaller Sierra 1500 pickup, which makes sense.
The front section will once again offer a recognizable sturdy grille and very modern LED headlamps. The headlights are now slightly larger and we are impressed by Sierra’s 18-inch wheels. The heavy-duty lineup will also introduce slightly more chrome trims on all trim levels. Besides that, we don’t expect to see more cosmetic upgrades.
On the inside, the new 2022 GMC Sierra HD will once again look modern and premium. The interior is really impressive, thanks to its high-quality materials and latest high-tech features. It is a spacious SUV-like cabin with so much to offer. The 2022 Sierra HD will deliver minor updates, such as a new infotainment system and additional driver-assistance aids. However, GM’s brand-new Super Cruise hands-free system could be in the offer.
Sierra 1500 pickup will surely get this system, but we don’t know if the heavy-duty lineup will get the same technology. You can choose between numerous cab styles and trim levels. The entry-level models are equipped with a standard 7-inch touchscreen. Moreover, an optional 8-inch display is standard in the upper trims.
In terms of performance, the new 2022 GMC Sierra HD will remain intact. This means GM will once again offer its two familiar V8 engines. The standard powertrain option is 6.6-liter gasoline with 400 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. A 6.6-liter diesel is a more popular option as it delivers 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.
Current Sierra HD can tow up to 24,000 pounds. Some reports are writing about a possible increase in torque level. It does make sense, as Ram and Ford did exactly the same thing. The gasoline engine offers a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the diesel powertrain comes with Allison 10-speed automatic gearbox.
The price of the all-new 2022 GMC Sierra HD will start at $38,000. If you want real luxury, the famous Denali trim level is available for about $60k. The sales will begin in the last quarter of 2021 if everything goes according to plan.
