The all-new 2022 GMC Canyon will hit the dealerships in less than a year. The next model will get a mid-cycle refreshment, which includes both exterior and interior upgrades. Like Chevy Colorado, Canyon should get the same updates. However, Colorado doesn’t need improvements so badly as the Canyon. Improved styling and more standard equipment will surely make the new Canyon more competitive.
Nothing will change in terms of trim levels. The off-road AT4 trim is available once again and it will deliver a more robust appearance. All trim levels will get the same upgrades and that even includes the latest high-tech features. The price won’t change significantly and that means the engine lineup won’t change at all.
The upcoming 2022 GMC Canyon will arrive with a mid-cycle facelift. That means the changes are not so dramatic. However, the latest updates are more than needed. Improved styling looks good and GMC will introduce more lightweight materials. The Canyon is an attractive pickup truck but it still offers a couple of outdated exterior features.
The next model will get more chrome trims, mostly upfront. The AT4 trim looks even sportier than its predecessor and we should expect more off-road equipment. The rear section won’t change at all but new exterior paints will be in the offer.
The interior of the 2022 GMC Canyon already looks nice and modern. However, the manufacturer will improve the cabin design and will provide more high-tech features. Once again, extended cab and crew cab setups are available once again. Both models are spacious, modern, and comfortable. According to GM, the new Canyon will offer more standard equipment. Some new and optional features will also become available.
Canyon is one of a few models that offer vinyl, cloth, and leather upholsteries. The 2022MY will introduce a new infotainment system but the current eight-inch touchscreen will remain. Features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi are available too. If you want real luxury, the Denali trim level is one of the most impressive models in the segment.
Under the hood, the new 2022 GMC Canyon will most likely offer the same engines. There will be three available options and a hybrid variant is still just a rumor at the moment. We think the hybrid powertrain won’t happen for 2022MY. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit is a standard engine that generates 200 hp. Moreover, this engine is using a six-speed automatic transmission.
An optional 3.6-liter V6 gasoline cranks out 308 horses and up to 275 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, a 2.8-liter diesel engine is available and it can produce 180 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. Optional engines are using an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The price of the upcoming 2022 GMC Canyon will now start at around $25,000. We expect a small jump in price, but nothing significant. The Denali trim level is available for almost $41,000. This pickup truck will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2021.
