2021 Ford F-150: News, Design, Price

Ford continues its decades-long domination in the pickup truck industry but challenged with the recently redesigned GM and Ram trucks, the brand must continue upgrading its models to stay relevant. Since the introduction of the 13th generation F-150 for the 2015 model year, the F-Series trucks have been sold in more than 4 million units and Ford is now working on the new-generation 2021 Ford F-150 hoping it could perform even better on the market. 

Details about the next Ford F-150 continue to emerge and based on what we know so far, the 14th generation version should come with the evolutionary styling changes and with more substantial upgrades inside the cabin. The redesigned F-150 should repeat five engines from the current version adding also the plug-in hybrid and all-electric version.  A 10-speed automatic transmission will also continue to the new model year. The off-road-ready Raptor should arrive later with the revised suspension and new supercharged engine under the hood.

2021 Ford F-150 Design

Following the last revolutionary redesign when it switched to the aluminum-intensive structure which demanded massive investments and retooling, the new-generation 2021 Ford F-150 is expected with evolutionary structural and visual upgrades.

The prototype version spotted on several locations seems to have a similar shape and size as the current version. The front section of the model comes, however, in the revised form. The model should appear with the revised grille style and new more modern headlights with sleeker signature lighting should also be a part of the redesign.

The model should come with the reworked tailgate and taillights and we expect improved tailgate’s functionality and practicality.

Interior, Equipment:

Based on what we know so far, the cabin of the redesigned F-150 should benefit from more significant upgrades than the model’s exterior design.

The 14th generation F-150 should come with more upscale features in the top trims to catch up with the redesigned Ram 1500. The model will employ more premium materials and there will be more soft touchpoints.

The redesigned F-150 will also reach the market with upgraded tech and safety features. Inspired again by the new Ram trucks, Ford will offer a massive 15.5-inch touchscreen option while an 8-inch unit will be standard. The truck will also switch to the new generation Sync 4 infotainment platform.

The new Ford F-150 will also come with the upgraded safety equipment and there will systems available in the passenger cars plus towing and other equipment.

2021 Ford F-150: Powertrains

The redesigned, half-ton 2021 Ford F-150 will further expand the number of available powertrain options. The new version will continue to exploit five engines from the current F-150 and 10-speed automatic transmission will again be used across the range.

Two turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engines from the actual model will continue to the new model year as well as a 3.3-liter naturally aspirated base unit. A recently added 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine will also be on the equipment list.

The next Ford F-150 will also be available with various off-road packages including FX4 and Tremor.

Sometime after the debut of the conventionally powered versions, Ford will also introduce the plug-in hybrid variant with the V-6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission joined by the electric motor sitting between them. The reports indicate that F-150 PHEV will provide about 10 miles of the pure-electric range and that when riding unladen.

The hardcore Raptor version should also come upgraded to compete with the upcoming, Hellcat-powered Ram Rebel TRX. The new, half-ton Ford Raptor should use a 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine sourced from the Shelby GT500 producing around 760 hp. The Raptor version should also switch to the coil spring used with the live rear axle from the current leaf springs.

2021 Ford F-150: Release, Price

The redesigned 2021 Ford F-150 is expected to debut sometime in June as the latest reports indicate but that could change considering the COVID pandemic. The Raptor and electric variants will follow sometime after the conventional versions.

The current, 13th generation F-150 starts from $28, 745 but the all-new version equipped with the upgraded tech features should have a higher base price likely above $30, 000. The King Ranch, Platinum and Limited trims should also cost more considering the addition of new upscale materials.
