Chevy’s recently all-new, three-quarter-ton Silverado 2500 HD truck enters the new model year with several upgrades mostly related to technology features as the fresh reports indicate. More precisely, the 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will get the software and trailing camera systems updates. There should also be some changes to equipment availability.
The latest reports don’t promise any visual or structural upgrade and the same powertrain range will again be in the offer. A similar outcome was expected since this model enters its first model year after the complete redesign. The next round of more significant upgrades should be introduced not before the mid-cycle update.
The model will return in the same body styles powered with the familiar V-8 engines. The trim range will again offer everything from the work-focused version up to the well-equipped and stylish High Country model.
Following the last year’s complete redesign, the next 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD won’t benefit from visual or structural upgrades. Thanks to the deep structural upgrades and infusion of the high-strength steel the entry-level, heavy-duty Silverado is more capable than ever. The fourth-generation Chevy 2500 HD is also larger and more comfortable than ever.
The newest generation three-quarter-ton Silverado features also distinctive styling compared to the light-duty version but the new, bold front-end style is a much-discussed aspect of the model. No doubt that model stands out with its big grille and stacked headlights but the model’s new face was much criticized. Still, the new signature styling hasn’t affected sales of the Silverado HD and the model will continue with the same visual identity to the new model year.
The cabin of the freshly redesigned Silverado HD will also continue in the same form while reports suggest the introduction of the upgraded software and trailering system features for the new model year.
Thanks to the last year’s redesign and increased length and wheelbase, the Silverado HD offers a much-improved in-cab comfort while coming with the larger cargo bed as well.
The in-cab design is a bit dated compared to the main rivals despite being redesigned recently but gets high scores for the functionality. The model comes also with modern infotainment and safety systems and can be equipped with premium comfort features.
The base version will come with the vinyl upholstery and it will include a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, a 3.5-inch digital instrument display, etc.
The next in the range version will add LED taillights, larger 20-inch aluminum wheels, and more power accessories. The mid-range model will upgrade with the leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a larger center display, chrome grille and more.
The next to the top trim, the Silverado LTZ will switch to the leather upholstery, heated front seats, etc. The range-topping High Country version raises the stake with the premium Bose sound system, upgraded upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, chrome assist steps, and more.
The Silverado HD will also come equipped with modern safety and driver-assist technologies including an upgraded advanced trailering system. Available safety packages will also offer forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, etc.
The next 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD returns with the two familiar V-8 engines. Both engines have the same displacements of 6.6-liter but use different fuel.
The standard engine under the hood of every version is 6.6-liter V-8 mixed with the 6-speed automatic transmission delivering 401 hp and torque of 464 lb-ft. The same displacement Duramax turbodiesel engine combined with the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission will be an option on most trims. This engine makes 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque.
The engines come with the rear-wheel drive by default while buyers can switch to the four-wheel drive. An available Z71 package adds some off-road goodies.
The three-quarter-ton Silverado HD can tow up 18, 500 pounds.
The 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will go on sale this summer. The changes in the price range should be minimal. The current version starts from $34, 100. The diesel engine is a near $10,000 option. The range-topping trim version should start just above $60, 000.
