The mid-size GMC Canyon enters the new model year with no significant changes. The model introduces a new Carbon Black Metallic color option and remote-locking tailgate. The rest of the changes come down to the mixing between the standard and optional equipment. Unfortunately, there are no styling upgrades inspired by the redesigned Silverado 1500 or introduction of the turbocharged engine as some reports suggested. The introduction of the AT4 trim skips also the 2020 model year. Still, the Canyon remains a relevant competitor in the growing mid-size class and among various configurations and equipment levels buyers can find what they need. Those who want the best from the model can pick the high-value 2020 GMC Canyon Denali.
The Canyon Denali comes with the signature Denali styling and posh cabin. The model equips the high-comfort features and rich materials by default plus gets all of the tech which GMC offers for this model. The Denali version offers also V-6 petrol and diesel power options. Still, the model lacks some common active safety features.
The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali and the rest of the lineup returns without visible changes and the only new styling option is a new color, Carbon Black Metallic.
The Denali version stands out with premium styling formed from the Denali signature elements. The model grabs attention with a large chrome Denali grille situated between projector-beam headlights with LED signature lighting. In the case of the Denali trim, the chrome is also used on the door handles, window moldings, fog light bezels, mirror caps, etc.
The Canyon Denali gets also unique, 20-inch aluminum wheels as standard. The model comes also with the 5-inch chrome assist steps, cornerstep rear bumper, spray-on bedliner, etc.
The Denali trim is reserved for the crew cab body style only while buyers can choose between short and long cargo box.
The cabin of the Canyon Denali comes with premium comfort and tech features. There are no major changes for the new model year.
The model provides premium comfort for the passengers and driver and multiple storage compartments. The front seats are heated and ventilated and treated with premium leather upholstery. The driver’s seat has a 6-way power-adjustable function while the front passenger’s seat comes with a 4-way power feature. The steering wheel is also power-adjustable and heated. The premium, soft-touch materials are also used on other surfaces.
The Denali version includes also 8-inch GMC Infotainment System with navigation and Apple Car Play and Android Auto capability. There is also a 4G LTE hotspot and HD rearview camera. The range-topping Canyon gets also premium Bose sound system.
As for available safety equipment, the model relies on forward collision warning and lane departure warning but there are missing increasingly commons systems such as automatic emergency braking, etc.
At the performance level, the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali will be available with the V-6 and turbodiesel power.
The model gets a 3.6-liter V-6 engine equipped with the Direct Fuel injection, Active Fuel Management and Variable Valve Timing by default. The engine is paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission and it is good for 208 hp and torque of 275 lb-ft. The V-6 equipped Canyon can tow up to 7, 000 pounds. Buyers can pick between the rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with automatic rear locking differential and 2-speed transfer case.
With the two-wheel drive, the V-6 powered Canyon Denali should reach 24 miles per gallon on the highways or 17 mpg city.
Buyers can demand a reliable and more efficient 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine for better-towing capability and fuel economy. The engine works in combination with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The Duramax oil-burner makes 181 hp and peak torque of 369 lb-ft. With this engine under the hood, the canyon can tow up to 7, 700 pounds. The fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg city and 28 highways.
The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali should already be at dealers or under the way. The premium Canyon Denali with the short cargo box and V-6 engine will cost from $41, 595. With the four-wheel drive and Duramax diesel engine under the hood, the price will be $48, 825.
