2020 Ford F-250 Diesel: Specs, Towing, Price

When the best-selling, light-duty trucks can’t meet towing or payload demands, the heavy-duty models should be called for help. Today’s heavy-duty haulers are more capable and sophisticated than ever and they are available in various body styles and equipment levels. Ford updated the Super Duty range for the 2020 model year and there are multiple upgrades in performance, style, and tech aspects.

The new three-quarter-ton F-250 Super Duty model is here with a new petrol engine and transmission and buyers can get it with the new, off-road package as well. There are also some tech upgrades like Pro Trailer Backup Assist system sourced from the best-selling, half-ton F-150. However, the 2020 Ford F-250 Diesel is also here with the upgraded PowerStroke V-8 engine and some class-leading characteristics.

The reworked turbodiesel engine sets new records in the class and good news is that Ford offers this engine as an option in all trims. The 2020 F-250 is available in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited trim options. Buyers can also combine the diesel power with the new Tremor package which adds various off-road enhancements and can be had in most trims.

Performance, Towing

Following the introduction of the all-new, heavy-duty Ram, Chevy and GMC trucks and news that upgraded Cummins inline-6 diesel engine makes 1000 lb-ft of torque, Ford presented the facelifted F-Super Series with reworked PowerStroke engine and new industry records.

The new 2020 Ford F-250 Diesel and larger models in the range come with the heavily upgraded 6.7-liter PowerStroke V-8 engine combined with the brand’s new 10-speed Torqshift automatic transmission. The new engine version makes 475 hp at 2600 rpm while staggering 1050 lb-ft of torque engine delivers from just 1600 rpm. It is a significant upgrade from the previous version’s 450 hp and peak torque of 935 lb-ft.

To achieve such a torque bump engine underwent serious upgrades. It comes now with the stronger cylinder heads, bearings, connector rods and block. The part of the engine upgrades is also new forged-steel pistons. Ford also delivers a new PowerStroke V-8 turbodiesel with an improved fuel injection system. 

When equipped with the V-8 diesel, the three-quarter-ton F-250 can tow now up to 20,000 pounds for the conventional trailering. The max gooseneck towing is 22,800 pounds.

The diesel-powered F-250 is also available with the off-road Tremor package which improves its off-road abilities with the specialized suspension, large tires and various terrain modes.

2020 Ford F-250 Diesel: Design, Equipment

The 2020 Ford F-250 Diesel gets also some styling upgrades for the new model year. The model is on sale with the revised grille design with better airflow. The front bumper is also reworked while the rear gets new taillights and restyled tailgate.

There are also various appearance packages and Tremor package with unique grille, wheels, tires and upgraded suspension.

The cabin of the new F-250 is unchanged except some new materials are used in top trim. The Limited version combines black ash wood inserts and a new headliner with more surfaces covered with the premium leather.

The newest f-250 returns in six trim options and familiar cab and cargo box variations.

The model will be available with various material options ranging from the durable vinyl upholstery to soft, perforated leather surfaces. It also equips the newest tech and safety equipment. Every version can be had with the responsive Sync infotainment system and a 4G LTE hotspot. Ford also offers automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. Buyers can also get the new F-250 with the heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, multi-contour front seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging.

Ford offers also various packages available across the range. The truck comes also with systems that make maneuvering of trailer easier. Multiple cameras provide an all-around view while the new Pro Trailer Backup Assist system allows you to control where the trailer goes via the knob on the instrument panel.

Availability, Price

The refreshed Ford F-250 is available at dealers from $33, 750. But if you want the 2020 Ford F-250 Diesel, a PowerStoke V-8 is available in all trims for an additional $10, 495. Ford also offers a new 7.3-liter V-8 gas engine which is $2, 045 option.
