2020 Fiat Toro: Refreshed, Changes, Price

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has been in the news lately with the introduction of the all-new, full-size Ram trucks and mid-size, Wrangler-based Gladiator. There are also talks about the possible introduction of the all-new, mid-size model with the Ram badge which should compete better with other mid-sized models like the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, etc. than the special-purpose Gladiator. The brand has also another midsize model the Fiat Fullback which is essentially the rebadged Mitsubishi Triton and available globally. This model hasn’t proven as expected as could be discontinued as some sources indicate. However, the brand has another Fiat badged model, the Toro available in North America and this compact-sized, unibody truck is a good seller there.

The Toro debuted for the 2017 model in Brazil and more than 100, 000 units were sold in first two years. The model is also available in Columbia marketed as the Ram 1000. The model was reported to come in the US under this nameplate but with the growing sales of the mid-size models, Ram will likely launch an all-new Ram-badged mid-sizer in the US in not so distant future.

But despite it won’t likely come to the United States, the Toro is important for the brand and to continue at a good pace in the North Amerika market, Fiat updated it for the 2020 model year. The new 2020 Fiat Toro comes with more standard equipment and upgraded tech. The base trim will be available with the turbodiesel engine and 9-speed automatic gearbox. The upgraded infotainment system will also be part of the 2020 refresh. The model received also some styling tweaks and new color options. The Toro will also offer a new S-Design package while the new Ultra trim should appear by the year-end.

2020 Fiat Toro: Design

Fiat hasn’t made radical styling changes on the new 2020 Fiat Toro. The model comes with the new front bumper with overbumper and that is the only element replaced for the mid-cycle update. The rest of the front fascia including the grille, headlights and signature lighting continue in the same form. The profile of the model is also unchanged and the same is with the rear section and multi-function tailgate.

While there are not many “hard-part” changes, Fiat introduced new color options and S-Design package. The S-Design package adds popular dark-theme elements including adhesive stripes on the hood and tailgate. The black color also dominates on the bumpers, upper grille, door handles, mirror caps, etc. The darkened wheels and badges are the part of the S-Design package as well. The new colors are Jazz Blue, Deep Brown and Billet Silver.

Interior, Equipment:

The interior of the 2020 Toro returns in the pretty much the same shape and form as before. The new model year brings, however, an upgraded infotainment system with a simple and more responsive interface. The new system will be managed via a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility as well as TomTom navigation.

The new S-Design package applies also the black-theme inside the cabin. The model with this package comes with the specific, black seat padding while the black stitched leather is applied on the door panels, dash and steering wheel. The interior with the S-Design treatment will also use Matte Black and Gray trim accents.

Later in the year, the Toro should also get a new Ultra trim with premium materials and hard cargo bed cover.

2020 Fiat Toro: Performance

The 2020 Fiat Toro enters the new model year mechanically unchanged. Fiat expanded, however, the availability of the turbodiesel engine to all trims. The new Ultra trim will be marketed with the turbodiesel unit and 9-speed automatic gearbox excessively. The base trim will also offer the oil burner and automatic transmission.

The engine range will again include two petrol/ethanol units. A 1.8-liter E torQ Flex I4 engine will produce between 135 and 139 hp depending on the fuel. A larger 2.4-liter Tigershark II I4 petrol-ethanol engine will deliver 174-185 horsepower. With the 2.0-liter Multijet II I4 turbodiesel engine under the hood, the Toro will have 170 hp at disposal.

With three engine options, buyers will also choose between there transmission choices. There will be 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 9-speed automatic transmissions.

2020 Fiat Toro: Release, Price

The 2020 Fiat Toro comes in Endurance, Freedom, Volcano and Ranch trim options while the Toro Ultra should appear by the year-end. The base Toro will cost from 92, 990 Brazilian Real which is around $24, 400.
