The pickup trucks are keeping our attention since the introduction of the all-new, light-duty models in early 2018 and the focus have shifted recently to the heavy-duty haulers. Ram debuted the new generation HD trucks with the Cummins inline-6 diesel engine capable to deliver 1000 lb-ft of torque. The refreshed Ford Super Duty range is also in front of the public eye and available with the new 7.3-liter V-8 gasoline engine and many other upgrades. But Chevy is also ready for the battle and the new generation Chevy Silverado HD designed with the needs and priorities of heavy-duty buyers in mind will hit the market soon.
Chevy offers the HD models in ¾-ton and one-ton configurations with latter available with the dually rear wheel setup. The new Silverado 3500 should also be the towing king in the class with the limit at 35, 500 pounds but the new 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will also meet the demands of many customers.
The new Silverado 2500 HD comes with improved structural design and upgraded powertrains in order to provide higher working and towing capability. The styling of the new truck is also radically new with the more differentiation from the light-duty Silverado 1500 than ever. The trucks come also with better interior comfort and equipped with the newest hardworking, entertainment and safety technologies.
The new generation 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is designed to work and tow more and to achieve this the trackmaker used modern building techniques. The truck is based on the upgraded, high-tensile steel chassis and seven types of steel are used to maximize the capability and durability of the truck. The new versions are also larger and have more spacious cargo beds. The model is longer, wider and taller and rides on the stretched wheelbase. The four-door crew cab version is 3 inches longer than the version it replaces and the model is also available in the regular and extended cab styles.
Chevy made also the styling of the Silverado HD more different than from the light-duty version. The new, eye-catchy and polarizing front end design gets the attention with the larger, new grille with the horizontal bar with the brand’s name in most trims and with the bowtie badge on some versions. The new slimmer and meaner looking headlights also impact the look of the model.
Depending on the trim version, the truck changes also the finish of the grille and switches between the black mesh grille on the Work Truck version with body color surround to more chromed versions in the upper grades with the full chrome design and horizontal slats and bowtie badge on the top High Country trim.
On the other hand, the profile of the truck is close to the design of the light-duty version with the softer fender flares and more elegant lines. The rear has embossed tailgate with the new taillights and larger bumper step. The cargo beds are also more spacious which should also appeal to the buyers.
Inside the cabin, the customer will find more legroom and headroom thanks to the larger dimensions of the truck and the configurable rear seats will also open the room for the cargo. The improved driving position will also make the hard work easier.
The truck will also provide multiple configuration levels with the transition from the work-oriented interior design and tech availability to the high-value version with the upscale comfort and tech features.
The model will hit the market in Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country trims. The modern and intuitive infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto will be available as well as the advanced safety systems. The truck will employ systems such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning and front and rear park assist.
The trailering will also be easier thanks to the new technologies. The truck will provide a transparent trailer view and steering assist which takes into account the trailer.
Providing the power for the new generation 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will be two V-8 engines including the gasoline and diesel units.
The base engine is the new small block 6,6-liter V-8 engine with power and torque production of 401 hp and 464 lb-ft. The engine is paired with the six-speed automatic transmission and uses direct injection and higher compression.
A lightly revised 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 engine gets the new 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes the same power and torque ratings with 445 hp available at 2800 rpm and max torque of 910 lb-ft from 1600 rpm.
The new Silverado HD will be standard with the rear-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive. The new transfer case will provide automatic four-wheel drive and the model will also offer different rear axle options.
The new generation 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD will go on sale this summer. The price and trim equipment organization will appear closer to the on-sale date. With the upgraded capability and tech equipment, the starting price should move in higher $30,000s.
