The light-duty Ram 1500 entered the new chapter early this year. The half-ton Ram improves on all fronts and the all-new truck is more capable, efficient, lighter, larger, high-tech and more. Ram also introduces a new design theme but the 48-Volt mild-hybrid systems also come in the combination with most powertrain options providing better performance and efficiency. The new Ram truck again comes in the number of styles and body options and the number of trims is eight.
The 2019 model debuts with the Quad Cab body style with three-quarter-size rear doors but the most interior space will be available in the 2019 Ram 1500 Mega Cab with the full-size rear doors. The standard (6 feet 4 inches) cargo bed is available as well as the short (5 feet 7 inches) version. The regular cab isn’t yet available and it seems now that a 3.0-liter diesel V-6 will appear with the 2020 version.
The 2019 Ram 1500 Mega Cab is based on the all-new frame which is mostly made of the high-tensile steel. This improves the structural rigidity and allows greeter towing limits. The improved structure also boosts the safety measures while the weight is also reduced. The new Ram weights 225 lbs less than the version it replaces while the towing level is up. To that also add the aluminum body elements.
The redesigned light-duty Ram also changes the way it looks. It now looks less rugged, more modern and the aerodynamics is also improved. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles also made the radical shift by abandoning the signature cross-hair grille design. The new sleeker grille design comes in the combination with thinner and nicely accentuated headlights and the front bumpers also looks more modern. The powerful hood also contribute to the look and the model has elegant taillights as well.
Each trim also brings the unique exterior treatment. The base version caries unpainted bumpers and upper grades add flashier, chrome elements. The size of wheels also increases with upper trims and the top version look more urban.
Inside the cabin, the four-door Ram 1500 benefits from additional inches. With the additional 3.9 inches in length, the model improves the rear-seat comfort significantly. The model also has easy-to-use controls grouped below the center screen. The fine materials and textures are present in all versions and upper grades improve the level of refinement and quality.
The new light-duty Ram will offer a total of seven trims.
The starting level will include 18-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, vinyl seats and floor and the 5.0-inch Uconnect system version. The 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, cloth upholstery, carpet floor and more will be available with the Big Horn version. This trim will also offer the options such as the 8.4-inch touchscreen display, LED headlights and taillights, dual-zone climate control, etc.
The Rebel version will boost the off-road performance and stand out with the specific grille version. It will also include skid plates, off-road tires, tow hooks, side steps, beefed up suspension components, an electronic rear locking differential, satellite radio, etc.
The Laramie add more luxury. It includes leather upholstery, power, heated and ventilated front seats, power pedals, rear parking sensors, nine speakers among other equipment. The Longhorn lifts the ratings with the 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic wipers, chrome side steps, power tailgate, etc. Inside the cab, it adds upgraded leather upholstery, heated and ventilated rear seats, a navigation system, etc.
The top-tier Limited version has more chrome exterior pieces, standard air suspension, retractable side steps, premium leather upholstery, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, etc.
The options include a 12.0-inch Uconnect system package, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, surround vision cameras, lane departure warnings, exterior accents, 22-inch wheels, and more.
The new 2019 Ram 1500 Mega Cab and other versions continue with the coil spring rear suspension which improves the ride comfort without of sacrificing some of the loading and towing capability.
The new Ram also brings powertrain upgrades and better towing. The firm introduces the mild-hybrid system with the 48-volt battery and motor-generator setup which boosts the torque in some situations and also lifts the fuel efficiency.
A 3.6-liter V-63 engine is the base unit and makes 305 hp and torque of 269 lb-ft at 4, 800 rpm. The mild-hybrid system jumps to the game and adds up to 90 lb-ft of torque. The new Ram also returns a 5.7-liter V-8 engine as an option. This engine with the direct injection and variable valve timing provides 395 hp and torque of 410 lb-ft at 3, 950 rpm. To this engine, the eTorque mild-hybrid system adds 130 lb-ft of torque.
The redesigned Ram will use an 8-speed automatic transmission and offer both two- and four-wheel-drive configurations. Ram will likely return the diesel engine option for the 2020 model. The towing limit is at 12, 750 pounds.
The new more refined and capable 2019 Ram 1500 Mega Cab will need at least $34, 495 for the base version. At the opposite side of the spectrum, the Limited will cost up to $56, 495.
