2019 GMC Canyon Diesel: Changes, Design, Equipment

The mid-size GMC Canyon is a slightly more upscale styled and more refined of two GM’s mid-size twins while they share most of the mechanics. The Canyon can also be ultra-luxury appointed in the signature Denali style while even the base version has a lot to offer. The model also has great road demeanor and can add off-road enhancements to leave the paved roads behind. The trio of the powertrain is also the strong side of the Canyon but probably the best side is the smooth and efficient Duramax diesel engine.

The newest version of the Duramax-powered Canyon comes as the 2019 model and like other versions, it will get several upgrades. The 2019 GMC Canyon Diesel will benefit from the new and improved infotainment system. The firm also brings the new digital camera and rear park assist. Buyers will also get new color options to chose from as well new 17-inch wheels on the SLE version. Another upgrade is the new 6-way power driver seat on Canyon SLE and above.

2019 GMC Canyon Diesel: Styling

The Canyon has a slightly sleeker exterior styling than the corporate twin and regarding the look, the 2019 GMC Canyon Diesel and other versions will remain the familiar shape and design. For the new model year, GMC adds several new color options including Smokey Quartz Metallic, Blue Emerald Metallic, Sedona Metallic and Dark Sky Metallic. Another styling upgrade for the new version is the new 17-inch wheel design and that on the SLE version.

Other visual aspects of the GMC Canyon remain familiar. The mid-cycle update is expected with the 2020 version and but even then the model won’t change radically. It will continue with the prominent grille and rectangular headlights. The grille will appear with the radiator-like or mesh pattern depending on the trim option and the finish will also vary. The body-colored or chrome bumpers without or with the skid plate will also be on the model depending on the trim level. The signature Denali model will have the unique grille and more shiny elements plus unique wheel design.

What’s better inside?

Interior of the upcoming Canyon will continue with the same overall design but will change in several aspects.

The new 6-way power-adjustable driver seat will come with the SLE, All Terrain, SLT and Denali versions. GMC also expands the availability of the heated steering wheel and wireless charging. The model also gained the rear park assist. What is also important the new GMC infotainment system is available. GMC promises more intuitive, responsive and personalized interface. The system also provides improved voice recognition, permanent wireless connectivity, smartphone compatibility, software updates, etc.

Availability, Features:

The truck will return in the same cab styles and two cargo bed options. The Duramax Diesel will appear on the SLE trim and above.

The SLE will have unique cloth upholstery, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, skid plates, an 8-inch touchscreen interface, etc. The All-Terrain add to that, the off-road tuned suspension, unique styling cues, recovery hooks, skid plates, all-terrain tires, etc.

The SLT upgrades with the 19-inch wheels, leather upholstery, upgraded front seating and sound system and more. The Denali raises the leveler with the unique styling enhancements, upgraded and perforated leather upholstery, ventilated seats, 20-inch wheels, etc.

The Canyon also offers several active safety systems including rear park assist, lane departure warning, and forward collision alert.

2019 GMC Canyon Diesel: Performance

The 2019 GMC Canyon Diesel again steps on the stage with the proven 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder engine. Equipped with this engine the Canyon delivers best towing capability and efficiency among other versions.

The Duramax engine provides 181 horsepower at 3, 400 rpm while the max torque of 369 lb-ft kicks in from just 2, 000 rpm. The Diesel mill operates smoothly with the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Duramax-motivated Canyon can tow up to 7, 700 pounds while also delivers best of the efficiency. With the two-wheel-drive configuration, the model scores 22 mpg city and 30 highways. The power on all wheels reduces efficiency to 20/28 mpg city/highway.

The model can also improve its off-road capabilities with the All Terrain packages. The off-road goodies such as the Goodyear all-terrain tires, improved transfer case, automatic driving modes, skid plates and more make the off-road adventures and jobs easier and safer.

The 2019 GMC Canyon Diesel will join the market in next months. The price of the Canyon with the Duramax power will start from high-30, 000.
