Almost a year ago Ford has announced production of the new all-electric 300-miles SUV, new Mustang sport coupe and Hybrid version of the most popular Pickup Truck F-150. At that moment the new eco-friendly truck was scheduled for the year 2020. Having in mind that the competition massively turns to green vehicles, Ford’s engineers have invested all their efforts to make that period shorter. Judging by the latest news that is circulating on the internet new truck will experience its presentation very soon and it will be available as a 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid.
Taking into account that the hybrid technology is rapidly developing in the last decade and that it is present under the bonnets of the hatchbacks and sedans it was only a matter of time when it will be found with pickup trucks too. So far no official news has been released regarding F-150’s powertrain. However, for some current models, Ford prepares 4-cylinder turbocharged engine combined with two electromotors.
Even though this powertrain is smaller, thanks to the electromotors it delivers enough power to meet pickup truck’s needs. Most likely, Ford will not stop here. It will develop a hybrid system with its EcoBoost V-6 engines for heavier towing and hauling tasks. The transmission that will be paired with the new system is unknown. However, it will deliver power on the rear axle for sure. The AWD will be optional with the higher trims. The fuel consumption and CO emission will be significantly lower than with the regular model.
Since all efforts are directed in development of the new powertrain it cannot be expected that 2019 Ford F-150 comes with the new design. It will most probably borrow the look from the regular 2018 model. Some weight reduction can be expected with the hybrid model in order to increase autonomy but the most features will be the same as with the current model. This means that the new eco-friendly model will have Ford’s well-known headlights with daily LED lights as standard. The grill will have some chrome details and familiar two horizontal bars with Ford’s logo in the middle. The interior will also be unchanged containing the latest infotainment system and leather and real wood details.
As mentioned at the beginning, the new 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid will hit the market sooner as predicted. It will be in production phase by the year 2019. The price is still unknown but it will be definitely higher than the price of the regular model.
