We have some good news and some bad news regarding the all-new 2018 Mercedes X-Class. It’s one really amazing pickup truck, but it won’t be available in North America at all, or at least not at this point. The luxury mid-size pickup truck has been introduced in South Africa some two weeks ago and will hit the European dealerships this November.
As you can see, Mercedes’ all-new pickup truck looks really gorgeous. It features an aggressive and shiny front-end styling with a striking two-bar grille and a pair of attractive headlights. Below, the 2018 Mercedes X-Class sports a massive bumper with a large air intake. Altogether, the front end seems like we are looking into some of Mercedes’ latest SUVs, which is not bad at all. In the back, the workhorse features a chunky bumper with an integrated step. The idea seems to be stolen from Nissan’s Navara truck. However, the car manufacturer offers the option without that, in case you need tailgate to swing beyond 90 degrees.
Inside, the X-Class looks really charming. The car manufacturer didn’t take any risk at all, so it equipped the truck with a familiar 8.4-inch infotainment system. The touchscreen is mounted at the very center and features an amazing Garmin-based navigation. Instrument dials are separated with a 5.4-inch display, but that’s going to cost you extra.
The 2018 Mercedes X-Class uses a 2.3-liter diesel, which comes in single and twin-turbo form. The base oil-burner with a single turbocharger, so called X220d model delivers 161 horsepower, while the twin-turbo option produces 190 horsepower. The second model is known as the X 250d. Both options are paired with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The German car manufacturer hasn’t introduced the V6 model this time, but it promised the version by the next summer. The V6 diesel, so-called X 350d will develop up to 260 horsepower and will be mated to a full-time four-wheel drive and 7-speed automatic.
Mercedes’ workhorse is essentially Navara’s sibling, so it’s no wonder at all why these two share the platform. Plus, both are using a double wishbone front axle and a multi-link rear suspension. However, the Germans haven’t stopped there. No, they upgraded the truck by adding a bespoke suspension set-up and a faster steering ratio, as well as stiffened areas of the ladder frame chassis. Plus, the 2018 Mercedes X-Class comes with a quartet of vented brake discs, each for a wheel. In the front, the vehicle packs 320mm discs and 308 mm at the rear.
As we announced, the amazing 2018 Mercedes X-Class truck will become available this winter. The price will start from €37,294.
